When Y/N opened her eyes, the world felt like a blur—a kaleidoscope of unfamiliar sights and sounds. Her head ached, her limbs felt heavy, and a dull buzzing filled her ears. She blinked a few times, trying to focus on the room around her. Stark white walls, the hum of machines, the sterile smell of antiseptic. It didn’t take long to realize she was in a hospital.
Her throat was dry as she tried to speak, but no sound came out. She felt disoriented, her body weak, her mind foggy. How had she ended up here? She couldn’t remember. Panic began to rise in her chest, but before it could take hold, a voice—warm and gentle—pulled her back.
"Y/N?" The voice was soft, laced with concern. "You’re awake. Thank God."
She turned her head toward the sound, her eyes settling on a young man standing by her bedside. He was strikingly handsome, with soft features and expressive eyes that shone with relief. There was something comforting about his presence, but at the same time, something unsettling. She didn’t recognize him.
He stepped closer, a small, tender smile on his face. "It’s me. Jeongin."
Y/N stared at him, her mind scrambling to place him, but it came up empty. The name felt foreign, the face unfamiliar. She swallowed, her voice hoarse when she finally managed to speak.
"I—I don’t know you."
Jeongin’s expression faltered for a brief moment, a flicker of pain crossing his features before he quickly masked it with a soft smile. "That’s okay. It’s alright. The doctors said this might happen. You’ve been through a lot."
Y/N’s brows furrowed in confusion. "What do you mean? What happened?"
Jeongin hesitated, his eyes flicking to the door as if searching for someone, before settling back on her. "You were in a car accident. A bad one. You’ve been unconscious for a few days." His voice was steady, but Y/N could sense the worry beneath it. "They said… they said you might have some memory loss."
Memory loss. The words hit her like a punch to the gut. That explained the fog in her mind, the strange emptiness where her memories should be. But even with that explanation, one thing still didn’t make sense.
"How do you know me?" Y/N asked, her voice trembling. "Why are you here?"
Jeongin blinked, his expression softening as he reached out to take her hand. The gesture was gentle, familiar—like he had done it a thousand times before. "Because I’m your husband."
Her heart skipped a beat, her breath catching in her throat. Husband? That couldn’t be right. She didn’t remember getting married. She didn’t even remember meeting him.
