Over the weekend, as well as the weeks that followed, Nora was suckered into working with the people of Greenhaven Castle, where she did her best to heal those who have been affected by the bonding sickness and wasn't able to reach the Nectar in time. Many of the Greencloaks were amazed and overjoyed by the newbie's aid that she had given them. Once she realized that she had healed the bond between Finn and Donn, the news had spread like wildfire throughout the castle. Nora gained permission to heal Henry, Jay, and Neil from their respective bonding sickness and everyone was stunned to see that her powers had stopped the Cooley brothers from hurting themselves.
For the first time since her arrival to the Greenhaven Castle, Nora was allowed to leave the castle with Tarik and Finn in tow. The three of them had set sailed together towards Eura and now they were traveling on the trails towards a poor, but decent village together. Finn had told them about the rumors of the bonding sickness that was coming from the village that he and his family used to live at before they were learned about the Greencloaks.
It was a long and grueling ride through increasingly rocky terrain. They had to stop several times to drink water and check their horses' hooves for any stones. They didn't speak much as they rode through the wrought iron gates into the great valley in the afternoon. The air seemed to become colder as the fall colors of the leaves became increasingly intense. The trees' leaves glittered in bright shades of ruby red and topaz yellow. Many of the Greencloaks take in pride of the unique nature and vibrant beauty of Eura.
But in the depths of the forest, the branches rocked to the silent rhythm of the breeze and leaves were carried off by the wind, spinning and twirling like tiny dancers as they fell. The sound of the birds could be heard in the morning. There was grassy field spotted with colorful flowers. A creek could be seen bubbling in the glade. A few woodland critters could been scampering through the clearing as they returned home and escaped from the stamping hooves of the three horses. Some foxes went into a burrow. A couple of deer could be seen as they bounded away. Some squirrels and chipmunks were scattered about, grabbing their acorns to stash inside their tree homes and went into hiding. From above the birds started flying back to their nests. It was calm and peaceful around them in the gentle forest clearing.
Nora took in the surroundings, admiring the beauty of the Euran woods in the countryside. She hardly noticed Finn was watching her with a small smile. The longer Finn looked at the brave and determined girl, he couldn't help and yet admire her with a soft smile. He also caught glimpses of her face as she continued to take in her new surroundings. Her expression was very focused, and her blue eyes held a calm and vigilant look in them as she stared at the woods around her. Finn couldn't help, but quietly and subconsciously smile to himself. Nora's long, wavy honey blonde and beige hair seemed to shimmer like a waterfall of melted gold over her shoulders. As the sunlight shone down on her, it seemed make her skin twinkle as if it's in a pattern of a priceless jewel.
But he soon spotted Tarik watching him with guarded amusement and quickly returned to focus. "We're almost there." At those words, the trio rode up onto the top of a hill to overlook a village. It was really nothing more than a cozy collection of cottages, with thatched roofs and smoke drifting from their stone chimneys. There was no bank or any more formal building than a smithy and a storehouse.
The three of them nodded to each other, ready and determined to meet with the people who were unable to receive the Nectar and had caught the bonding sickness. Leading the way on his red chestnut stallion with a white blaze was Tarik, coming up behind him was Nora on her silver palomino mare, and making sure she's keeping up with him was Finn on a black stallion with a white star.
At that moment, a man who clearly had great experience living in the midst of the woods had came to greet the trio. His weary brown eyes lingered on the green cloaks of both Tarik and Finn, but his brow furrowed when he took notice of Nora's gray cloak flowing behind her.
"I've seen you lot before," said the man warily. "What do you three want?"
"We want to help those who caught with the bonding sickness," Tarik replied.
The man huffed. "A little late for that."
"No." The men turned to look Nora, a great aura of elegance and bravery as a member of a noble family would have. "It's never too late to help those who need help."
The man gazed at her thoughtfully, but something about her caused him to soften his sight on her. "Very well. I'll take you to the one who needs your aid. His name is Mike and his daughter is Aria."
Nora smiled and nodded to him. "Thank you."
The man led them to one of the cottages near them, which caused them to dismount their respective horses near the cottage. They were soon greeted by a weary, but guarded man at the door. He glared at the Tarik and Finn warily, but when he noticed Nora's presence, he was curious and surprised to see the different color of her cloak.
"At peace." Nora stepped forward boldly, her eyes shining in the light of the setting sun. "We are here to help your Marked child."
"And we're not going to force them become a Greencloak," said Tarik.
Mike eyed them warily, but he nodded. He soon let the three of them indoors and led them into his child's bedroom. Nora bit back a horrified gasp at the sight of the sickly daughter of the man. Aria was pale and wasn't responding to their sudden presences in her bedroom. She was laid down on the bed with a white blanket on top of her, her eyes were closed and breathing harshly. Nora saw a raven gazing at the unconscious girl in concern and saw the protective, but resigned look in Mike's eyes.
She caught Tarik's eye, he gave her a slight nod. Without another word, Nora stepped towards Aria and summoned Sandra. The striped wildcat looked around curiously, but she became saddened when she saw Aria. Without a word, the two of them stepped towards her.
Seeing what they're doing, Mike was about to protest threateningly. "If I you hurt her—"
"If you want your daughter to be healed, you must trust her to do it and stand back to let her do her healing." Mike was stunned to silence by Tarik's sudden, but protective words.
Nora placed her hand underneath Aria's and Sandra stepping up in front of her and placed her paw on top of their combined hands. That's when something odd happened.
Nora felt the spreading sensation of warmth going through her, like a fire running through her veins. But as she continued holding Finn's hand, she was surprised to feel his once cold hand becoming warmer. She glanced over at his spirit animal, stunned to see how calm and relaxed the raven was becoming by every passing moment. Nora felt something changing between Aria and her spirit animal, their bond with each other was being mended. That's when she saw a brief, fiery flash of light and it was done. Their bond has been repaired. Once she felt the fire in her veins calmed down, Sandra pulled back her paw and Nora pulled back her hand from Aria's hand, gasping quietly and felt completely winded.
Aria coughed and opened her eyes, once her eyesight cleared out. She was puzzled at the sight of a gray-cloaked, blonde-haired girl holding her palm and the unfamiliar girl's tigress spirit animal's paw on top of her hand.
"Hey Aria." Her eyes gleamed playfully. "It's nice to meet finally you."
"Aria." A familiar choked whisper came from one of the men. Aria gasped. It was her father with the two proud-looking Greencloaks. Everyone watched as Mike went towards the bed and the duo who helped her awake stepped back from the bed to join the two visiting Greencloaks.
Aria wrapped her arms around her and squeezed her father tightly. Aria felt her father's strong arms wrap around her. She shut her eyes and let her whole body relax into the embrace. A silent sob escaped from her. Warm tears were sliding from her father's face too.
Mike turned to gaze at the two Greencloaks and their gray-cloaked charge, whose spirit animal is a white tigress. Tears of joy ran down from his face as he gazed at them. "Thank you. Thank you so much."
"What do you call yourself?" Aria asked the gray-cloaked person curiously.
"You can call me the Giver," replied the mysterious girl, a hint of a smile could be seen.
