It had been a month since Ruby had met Matt, yet she saw his face in her mind.

The roar of Wilson Fisk stung the 104 precinct, Ruby was sent to every single crime scene that involved Wilson Fisk. She was restless and was out late every night.
______________________________

Here she was, she had to take the picture of Wilson Fisk. She gulped as she stared briefly at the large man who stood on the taped X on the cold floor.

"Miss Morgan will be snapping your image, please follow her instructions." The male officer who brought the large man into the room said.

The officer soon walked out, and the large man was alone with Ruby. She pulled out her camera to set it up, she placed the stand a few feet away. "You seem like you're hiding yourself from the world." The large man's voice rang in the air but she only ignored him.

The mugshot went fast, she wanted to be out because she sensed a cruel aura from the large man.

Days had gone, a letter had arrived from the state prison. It had her name written in a fancy cursive, like on an old fashioned document.

She opened it and her scanned the following:

"Dear Miss Ruby Morgan,

You don't know me, but I know you.

Right now, you're probably sitting at your desk, reading this with a mixture of curiosity and confusion. Maybe you're looking over your shoulder, wondering if this is a prank or a joke. I assure you, it's not.

Every move you make is being watched. Every text, every email, every glance over your shoulder has been noted. You've ignored the signs, but I think deep down, you've felt it, haven't you? The subtle shifts in the shadows, the phone calls that end just as you answer, the feeling that someone has been in your home. I know that you're not imagining it.

But this is just the beginning. You're getting closer, closer than you realize, to something you can't control. They're watching you for a reason-one you don't yet understand.

I'd tell you to be careful, but it's too late for that now. Instead, I'll say: trust no one, not even yourself. Secrets are waiting to be uncovered, and you might not like what you find.

Until next time.

Signed,
A Friend in the Shadows."

Her jaw clenched as she felt herself grow cold and a shiver went down her spine. Her mind started to race, then she realized that the large man had found her.

When Ruby got home, she immediately deadbolted her door. She looked at Bowie, who was napping on the small couch in the living room; she felt a small pang of protection.

Ruby went to her kitchen and opened a cabinet that was near the refrigerator, she reached in and grabbed out a bottle of gin.

She stared at the bottle before unscrewing the lid and took a large gulp of the bitter liquid, she made a loud gulp sound.

She carried the bottle with her as she headed to her bedroom, taking large sips each time.
______________________________
The bottle was now half empty, Ruby was standing in her bathroom that had a yellow hue. Her eyes looked glossy and her image wasn't perfect.

Her hair seemed to be mess, her eye makeup was down her face in streaks, and her lipstick didn't exist on her lips anymore.

She took the last sip of the bottle as she stood there, her stance was wobbly now. She was very drunk now.
______________________________
In her dreams, she'd see his face. The face of the man who wanted to hurt her, the man who supposedly knew everything about her.

But she wondered. Why know everything about her?

She didn't much about Wilson Fisk, she only knew that he was in jail. But why is she in danger?
______________________________
Bowie's barking filled the room, Ruby only groaned.

A glove shot over her mouth, this caused her scream out as she woke up.

Her eyes scanned, she was met with a black mask.

Him.

Was all she thought.
______________________________
"Are you Ruby Morgan?" The masked figured asked, Ruby mumbled a yes. She was still heavily intoxicated.

All the words that came from the man was a blur, her intoxication mixed everything. Until she heard the words, "He will hurt your family, he has connections."

Her glossy eyes shot open and she was afraid of losing her family.
