Morganville Vampires: New Mayor

Chapter 9

Myrnin's P.O.V.

Myself and Claire stepped through the portal into my lab. She immediately began searching in silence.

"Claire," I said, "I need to talk to you."

"You told me you needed me to find your slippers not talk," she said angrily.

"Well talk to me, then look for the slippers," I said.

"I promised Shane I would be back soon!" she shouted at me.

I looked down at my feet and shouted, "Claire, I've found them! I'm wearing them!"

"For gods sake Myrnin you dumbass!" She exclaimed, "you dragged me here to find slippers that were on your feet the whole time!"

"I saw the posters," I said quickly.

"Myrnin, I don't care what you say, Shane will make a great mayor and I'm not going to let him give up!" She said looking at me angrily.

"I completely agree Claire, Shane would make a very good mayor. I was going to ask if you wanted me to put in a good word with Amalie." I said to her.

She realised I was serious and I saw the surprise on her face. "Though of course," I added quickly, "don't tell Shane, I would hate for him to think I liked him!" She looked overmany happy at this,

"You mean you'll really help us?"she said hopefully.

"Yes of course," I replied, "we might not get on very well but I did like Frank and he would have wanted me to help." Frank was Shane's dad and after death he was the brain that ran the Morganville security system that myself and Claire are in charge of.

"Thanks Myrnin, putting in a word to Amalie would really help," she said with glee, "he was really worried that his past would affect his chances."

" I can't promise that it won't but I will try my best," I said genuinely.

"Seriously Myrnin thanks, I'm glad you found your slippers as well," she said, "but I'd better get going now; Shane is probably starting to get worried.

"Ok Claire, I'll see you at work on Monday." I said as she stepped back through the portal into her house.
