Enoch intertwined his fingers with Adrenna's, creating a warm connection between them. He took a step outside first, pausing just beyond the threshold, which left Adrenna feeling a bit puzzled. She chose to remain silent as she observed Enoch reaching for something that was just beyond her line of sight.
To her surprise, he pulled out an umbrella, and when he noticed her curious gaze, he offered an explanation. "I figured the sun is too high in the sky for you. It's safer this way," he said with a reassuring smile.
With that, he raised the umbrella above their heads, creating a small oasis of shade as Adrenna instinctively moved closer to him to stay in the comforting shadow of the umbrella.
Adrenna couldn't quite anticipate what awaited her outside or what Enoch had planned. Nevertheless, her mind began to race with possibilities as they walked. It all became clearer when Enoch led them toward Claire and the twins.
The moment the twins spotted Adrenna, their faces lit up with joy, demonstrating their familiarity with her. They jumped up enthusiastically and began to circle around her like exuberant puppies, their laughter ringing through the air. In that delightful chaos, Adrenna found herself momentarily distracted by the playful energy of the twins.
So much so that she did not immediately notice Enoch subtly gesturing for Claire to come a bit closer, as if he had something to share. "Claire, this is Adrenna."
Adrenna crouched down as Enoch guided her closer to Claire, their clasped hands still connected. The twins continued to circle around her excitedly, giggling as they tugged at her dress, while Claire approached cautiously. Adrenna noticed the little girl's three sets of teeth peeking out from behind her shy smile. She was smaller than the twins, with a sweet, curious expression in her bright eyes.
"Hello, Adrenna," Claire said softly, her voice as delicate as a whisper. She peered up at Adrenna with a mix of awe and timidity, her tiny hands gripping the hem of her dress.
Adrenna gave her a warm smile, bending lower to be at eye level with Claire. "H-Hello," she replied gently. "It's n-nice to meet you."
The twins stopped their circling and stood next to Claire as if introducing her to their little group. They beamed up at Adrenna and Claire, sharing a mischievous glance which Claire and Enoch understood as them saying, "Adrenna is our new friend!"
Claire's face brightened, and her nervousness seemed to melt away. "Can you play with us, Adrenna?" she asked, her eyes full of hope. "We're using the see-saw. You can push us!"
Enoch raised an eyebrow at Adrenna as if to say, Well, what do you think? He kept the umbrella steady above them, ensuring she remained in the cool shade.
Adrenna hesitated, glancing up at Enoch for reassurance. "Um?" she asked, a hint of reluctance in her voice. He chuckled softly, shifting his weight as he leaned the umbrella a bit closer to her. "She has to meet the others first. We'll play later," he promised.
