"FIRST WE WILL visit the Elysian Fields. Hero's reside within the fields." Hades informed Lonna. "Some of them you may even recognize from your studies as a mortal."
In a flash, the pair were transported through time and space, and were standing in a lush field. Tall grass, towering trees, and even small blossoms bloomed around them. For the Underworld, it was one of the most beautiful places she had ever seen. A blue sky accentuated by bright sunlight. And in the distance, she noticed figures. These figures did not look like every day mortals or gods, they had a certain hue to them. One that truly made them appear otherworldly.
"Shades," Hades stated, as if he could sense her growing curiosity. "They are shades - or spirits - that reside here. Come, let me introduce you."
Lonna was considerably nervous. She kept her grip on Hades arm as the pair approached a group of shades. They looked at them, as if almost seeing through them. The shades waited for their King's words.
"Behold, some of the greatest hero's to have lived." Hades began, his eyes shifting towards Lonna. "Achilles, won't you speak for them?"
Achilles?
"Greetings," Achilles bowed before Lonna. "We welcome you to our realm."
Lonna bowed to Achilles, releasing Hades arm to do so. "Greetings, Achilles."
He smiled towards her, and then shifted his gaze towards Hades. "King Hades, we are honored that you are sharing your esteemed guest with us. Her grace is as renowned as her beauty."
Lonna's cheeks turned warm and no doubt scarlet red as Achilles' attention focused back to her. "May we offer you a gift?"
Lonna couldn't hide the surprise that swept over her face. She looked to Hades, seeking guidance, and he gave her a small nod. Lonna returned her gaze to Achilles and nodded.
Achilles motioned beyond them to a nearby tree, where standing beneath was a grazing white mare. Beautiful beyond comprehension, Lonna couldn't keep her mouth from falling agape.
"Born of the shadows of the Underworld, we would like to offer her to you."
"She's breathtaking."
Achilles smiled, obviously pleased by Lonna's reaction. "Her name is Nyx, after the goddess of night."
Nyx trotted over to Lonna, nuzzling her outstretched hand. "She is able to sense your gentle and kind spirit."
Lonna tan her fingers over and through Nyx's mane. "How lovely you are."
Nyx whinnies softly, nuzzling Lonna's hand once again. She smiled a genuine smile towards the creature. "Nyx understands your affection," Achilles added, looking quite proud of his success. And out of the corner of her eye, Lonna could have sworn Hades had a slight smile upon his face. "See how she responds to your touch?"
Lonna looked back at Hades. "Will you have her brought back to the palace, please? I would love to have her nearby always."
Hades gave Lonna a singular nod. "It will be done. For now, let us continue with our tour."
Lonna turned her attention to Achilles once more. "Thank you, Achilles." She spoke. "I will not forget this kindness."
Achilles bowed, respect etched onto his face. "The honor is mine. May our gift bring you joy and remind you of our loyalty to the King."
Hades offered his arm once more to Lonna, which she accepted less hesitantly this time. "Where are we to visit next?"
"The Palace of Rhadamanthus."
