Under the heavy glow of the half-moon, Thistlebranch slipped from the medicine den. The reeds brushed her sides as she approached the river, the damp air clinging to her thick, feathery coat. With a bracing breath, she slipped into the water, feeling the river's chill seep into her bones as she paddled through, her fur darkened and heavy. The stars above reflected faintly on the river's surface, mingling with the ripples her paws created.

Emerging on the opposite shore, she shook herself quickly, casting droplets across the grass, and gazed ahead at the dark silhouette of WindClan's moorland.

Each pawstep felt measured, her mind tracing over each path curve toward the hills where Mothermouth lay hidden. Her journey across WindClan's territory was shrouded in shadows, the land oddly silent, only a soft, whispering wind brushing over the moor as she moved. By the time the sacred stones of Mothermouth appeared, her breaths were shallow from exhaustion.

The stones loomed tall, casting dark shadows under the moon's watchful gaze. Thistlebranch settled herself near the mouth of the cave, her thick fur prickling with unease as she glanced over her shoulder, checking for the familiar forms of the other medicine cats. The wind whipped at her soaked fur, and she huddled closer to the stone's chill, bracing herself against the sacred night's silence.

Thistlebranch looked up as Shadeclaw's form emerged from the shadows, his white fur gleaming under the moon's light. The black splotches on his paws and nose stood out sharply, making him appear almost ethereal in the soft glow. His pine scent, unmistakably ShadowClan, wrapped around her, grounding her in the present.

Without hesitation, he leaped onto the rock beside her, his presence steady and a calm strength emanating from his gaze. "Greetings," he murmured, his voice low and dismissive.

Thistlebranch lowered her head in acknowledgment, murmuring, "Hello, Shadeclaw." Her voice barely rose above the wind whispering around the rocky clearing, soft but certain. The darkness around them seemed to amplify the quiet exchange, and she felt the weight of the night settle between them.

After a while, Talonstripe appeared, her tortoiseshell pelt striking against the shadows. Behind her trailed Goatpaw, his gray, thick coat ragged from the long journey. The young apprentice's wide eyes reflected the moon's silvery glow, showing a mixture of exhaustion and awe as he took in the quiet solemnity of Mothermouth. Thistlebranch watched them, her gaze softening at Goatpaw's worn form. Shadeclaw flicked his tail in greeting, nodding at the two as they joined with the clearing.

Talonstripe chuckled warmly, flicking her ear in the direction of the path. "Ratbite's always the last to arrive, isn't she?" She settled down next to Shadeclaw and Thistlebranch, carefully licking her forepaw and running it over her ear.

Shadeclaw rolled his eyes, sarcasm clear in his tone. "Yet, she's the closest to Mothermouth," He said dryly, flicking his tail in exasperation. "I swear, it's a miracle she doesn't arrive by sunhigh."

Talonstripe stifled a laugh, her whiskers twitching with amusement. Goatpaw, shifting nervously beside her, offered a hesitant smile, still adjusting to these gatherings. Thistlebranch's gaze drifted to Goatpaw, her curiosity piqued. The young tom couldn't be more than eight moons, his coat still soft with kitten fur, and his steps unsure.

He shuffled nervously as he watched the older medicine cats. A soft flicker of empathy rose in Thistlebranch. She remembered those first overwhelming half-moons, trailing after her mentor with wide eyes and paws trembling with uncertainty.

Ratbite's frail figure finally appeared, her thin frame hurrying over the stones, breath labored. She dipped her head briefly, her voice strained but apologetic. "Sorry." Her black pelt was rough and ragged, dotted with torn patches. Her amber eyes held a dark, tired weight, though they softened as she took in her fellow medicine cats.
