Poom's POV

I closed my eyelids tightly as I felt the needle entering my wrist vein. I tried not to grimace from the pain.

The ER nurse said that the doctor had ordered for me to be given an IV antibiotic to treat the infection that had set into my wound.

The ER nurse also said that there was no need for me to get admitted but that I would be discharged as soon as the IV dose was finished.

"How long before the dose is finished?" I asked.

"About an hour," the nurse replied. "In the meantime take these fever reducing pills to lower your temperature."

I obediently took the pills and thanked the nurse.

"I will come back in an hour to check your vital signs," the nurse said before leaving my ER cubicle.

I didn't realize that I had dozed off. The combination of the fever reducing pills and the antibiotic made me drowsy and soon I was in a deep slumber.

I was awakened by voices but I couldn't open my eyes. I was very, very sleepy that I couldn't even move my extremities.

Wait, was that the master's voice?

I tried to open my eyes but my eyelids felt like they were glued over my eyes with some kind of super glue.

"Mek and Joss, you can both go back to the house," I heard the master say. "I will stay with him."

"Here's my credit card," I heard Mek say. "I put my name as Poom's responsible party. Poom said he will pay me back when he receives his salary."

"Shut up and go home," I heard the master say in a stern voice. "I will take over from here."

I wanted to tell the master that there was no need for him to stay because I was expecting my childhood friend, Boat, to come over to the hospital. I had called Boat as soon as I was admitted into the ER. Boat had said that he would come over right away which meant he was now on his way here and could arrive any minute now.

I couldn't inform the master about all of these because my eyelids and my mouth seemed to have been glued shut due to the drowsiness side effect of the combination of fever reducing pills and antibiotic.

I found myself dozing off again.

I was awakened once more by voices. Maybe the ER doctor had come to assess my condition.

Wait, that voice sounded familiar.

Wait... yes... Boat had arrived and was in my cubicle!

I tried to open my eyes.

"Poom, I'm here beside you, sweetheart," I heard Boat say.

Wait. Wait. wait, wait... I mean, wait, what did I just hear??? Had Boat addressed me as 'sweetheart'??? What on planet Earth did he mean by that???

Up's  POV

After Joss and Mek left, I sat on the chair beside Poom's bed and watched him anxiously. He seemed to be in deep sleep but looked comfortable.

I wanted to kick myself for being negligent about Poom's wound. I should have insisted on having it taken care of instead of letting him wait on me at breakfast yesterday morning.

I heard the rustling of the curtain that surrounded Poom's cubicle.

I immediately recognized the person who walked into the cubicle.

Boat bowed to me and I acknowledged his greeting.

Wow, news traveled fast and he must have made his way here as soon as he got the news about Poom.

I watched as he approached Poom, gently taking Poom's hand in his and bending low to whisper in Poom's ear.

"Poom, I'm here beside you, sweetheart," I heard Boat say.

I almost fell off my chair.

I gripped the sides of the chair to keep my balance.

I suddenly came to the realization that Poom was straight alright, but he was a selective straight. He was straight only when it came to me, but with others, like Boat, he was decidedly gay.

Oh my lord, oh my lord, oh my lord... I tried to stand up to leave the cubicle in order to give the two lovers some privacy but I felt dizzy and had to sit back down again.

I pulled my phone out of my pocket and tapped on Joss' number.

"Come and take me home," I ordered Joss. "Poom is in good hands now."
