Kao's POV

I was busy editing an office document on my computer when the door opened and Up walked in.

"I thought you were not coming to work today," I said in a surprised tone. "Do you want me to call back the individuals that you were scheduled to meet with today and let them know that you're available after all?"

"No, leave things as they are," he replied. "I will work on other stuff."

I was tempted to ask what his personal emergency had been and how he was able to resolve it but I disciplined myself and kept my mouth shut.

Up kept to himself throughout the whole workday. He was busy poring through some binders that contained contracts that would have been the subject of his meetings for today.

At lunch time he requested for a lunch tray from the office cafeteria to be brought up to him.

When I brought his lunch tray into his room, he looked up from the documents to ask me, "Do you know anyone who would be interested in being my temporary personal assistant?"

Again I was tempted to ask him what happened to his regular personal assistant, but once again I  schooled myself and refrained from doing so.

"I have a cousin whose friend has been out of work for some time now," I e replied. "Do you require someone with experience?"

"No," Up replied. "If he is at least a high school graduate and is able to follow simple instructions, I would hire him."

"Oh, and I would need for him to have a current driver license, " he added.

"My cousin's friend is actually a college graduate but somehow the course that he took does not seem to have done him much good in the area of employment," I said."He is a very smart person though. He's a quick study and he does have a current driver license but I will ask him for that information just to make sure."

"Will he be available for an interview today?" Up asked.

"Let me call my cousin," I said, pulling out my phone from my pocket.

My cousin Mark answered on the first ring.

"Hey, what's up," he said.

"Listen," I said. "Is your friend Joss still looking for work?"

"Yes," my cousin replied. "Do you know of any opening? He will take in any kind of job."

"Smashing," I said. "Tell him to come to my office building. My boss will interview him today."

"Wow, that quick?" he asked in an incredulous tone. "Let me call him right now. In the meantime can you text me your office address?"

"Sure," I replied and cut the call to text Mark my company building address.

In a few minutes, my cousin called me.

"P'Kao," Mark said. "I have given Joss your phone number and office address. He will be calling you in just about now so I'm hanging up so that you can take his call."

Sure enough, less than a second after I cut Mark's call, my phone started ringing.

"Hello," I said after swiping on my screen.

'"Good  afternoon, sir," the caller said. "My name isJoss. My friend Mark gave me your number. He said that I might have a chance for an employment at your company?"

"That's right," I replied. "Do you have a current driver license? Because it's an important requirement for the position., nd are you available to come in for an interview this afternoon?"

"Yes, sir, my driver license is current!" he said. "I have already looked up your address and it seems that you are less than half an hour away from where I live. I can drive over there right now,"

"Great!" I said. "I will tell my boss that you will be coming over in half an hour or so, to give you allowance for any trafiic obstacles."

"Thank you so much, sir," Joss said. "I will start making my way to your office now."

I had just come back to my desk from my lunch break when there was a soft knock on the door.

"Come in," I called out.

My eyes opened wide as I surveyed the appearance of the visitor that walked in through the office door.

I  wondered wildly what Up would have to say about him as I stood up to accept the hand that he extended to me.

"Good afternoon, sir," he said. "I'm Joss Way-ar. I'm here for an interview."

"Just call me Kao," I said, hating how my voice sounded more like a squeak rather than the gruff manly voice that I wanted him to hear.
