It was a crisp morning, and Tiara was heading to class when her phone buzzed with a message from Robin.
Robin: “Hey, can we meet up today? Need to talk about something.”
The message seemed casual enough, but Tiara felt a slight unease. Robin rarely phrased things so seriously, and his words lingered in her mind throughout her classes. By the time she arrived at their usual meeting spot in the campus garden, her heart was racing.
Robin was already there, leaning against a tree with his arms crossed, his expression unreadable. As she approached, he looked up, but his smile didn’t quite reach his eyes.
“Hey,” she greeted, attempting to sound light, but Robin’s gaze remained steady, studying her.
“Tiara,” he began, his tone calm but serious, “I wanted to ask you something, and I need you to be honest with me.”
Her heart dropped. She nodded, feeling her pulse quicken.
“Is there something going on with you and Ryan?” he asked directly, his voice low but unmistakably hurt. “I know about the late-night messages, Tiara. I heard about it from one of my friends who saw you two chatting during the program afterparty, and it seems like… well, it seems like there’s more to it than just friendship.”
Tiara’s mind raced, struggling to find the right words. She’d known Ryan had become important to her, but she hadn’t realized how much her feelings for him had affected her relationship with Robin until now.
“It’s… it’s not what you think,” she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper. “We’re just friends, Robin. Really.”
Robin’s eyes softened, but the hurt remained. “Friends, Tiara? I’ve been trying to convince myself of that, but it’s hard when I see how close you two have gotten. I thought we shared everything. Now it feels like there’s this... wall between us.”
A silence fell between them, heavy with unspoken words and hurt. Tiara reached for his hand, but he gently pulled away.
“I don’t want to be that guy, Tiara,” he said, his voice thick. “The one who doubts you, who feels insecure. But I need to know where I stand in your life, especially if someone else is filling that space.”
She took a shaky breath, fighting back tears. “Robin, you mean so much to me. It’s just… Ryan listens to me in a way that’s different. But it doesn’t mean I love you any less.”
Robin looked at her, his expression softening but still tinged with doubt. “I want to believe you, Tiara. I really do. But I need time to understand what this means for us.”
He stood up, offering a quiet nod before walking away, leaving Tiara alone, her heart aching with confusion. She realized that her feelings for Ryan were affecting her life more than she’d anticipated, forcing her to confront emotions she hadn’t fully acknowledged.
As she watched Robin walk away, she felt the weight of her actions pressing down on her, leaving her to question if she was slowly losing the very love she once cherished.
