An important thing I should note how this ties in with the ending is that this is supposed to show what happened before Rose married Jack (if we saved him). After being saved, Rose and Jack wed on the second Titanic years later (I am referring to the ending scene of Titanic where Rose goes through the doors and kisses Jack).
James Cameron said that the ending of Titanic is left up to interpretation, so if you want to believe this is the ending, then great. If you believe this is just an AU, also great.
