Camora lives in a shitty house, of course this isn't the first time she's seen a mouse. Mouse traps are permanent decorations in her house so it's been a while she's seen an alive one, but it wasn't exactly a surprise. Still, she'd prefer if there wasn't a mouse running across the floor of her room. Some may judge her for immediately attempting to pounce on this mouse like a irate cat but she knew she'd never be able to get back to sleep with a mouse in her room. The mouse out-ran her, and dashed under her door, she kept chasing it through the house until she ended up in the kitchen. She stumbled backwards as she watched the small mouse vanish into a glowing purple-blue spiraling tunnel that certainly wasn't there before. It was like looking down one of her old slinkies... Sure, she was claustrophobic, but she was also very very curious. What was that saying about cats and curiosity, again? Camora crouched down and carefully crawled into the tunnel, but once she reached the other side she found herself back in her kitchen. It looked...different. The water damage was gone, every dish was cleaned and put away, the floor looked scrubbed, what was this? It smelt...good. It smelt like good food. It was only then that Camora noticed her mother standing at the stove, cooking something in a large pot, "Hello, dear, you're just in time for dinner." she said in this weird sing-song voice that sounded nothing like her. Camora's mom usually slurred or mumbled her words, and she certainly never called Camora "dear". "What's wrong?" Camora asked, it was all she could say, even the air felt suddenly strange. "Nothing's wrong, don't be silly. Sit down, supper will be ready soon." Camora was truly stunned, she just sat down at the table like she was told, weird, the chair didn't squeak like it used to. Camora's mother placed a bowl full of spaghetti in front of her, it smelled good. "You...made me pasta?" Camora turned her head towards her mother and gasped, her eyes...were gone. Replaced with black buttons. Her other mother just smiled at her. "You're not her, are you?" Camora said, "No, I'm your other mother, the better one." she said, placing a fork in the bowl of admittedly very appetizing pasta. "'Better'? Just because you made me spaghetti?" Camora took a bite, don't judge her, she's starving. "Better because I love you." Camora put a hand over her mouth to stop herself from doing a spit-take, she didn't want the pasta to go to waste, but it had sure been a long time since she heard those words coming from her mother's mouth. "I think I better go home." How did the saying go again, "Too good to be true"? "But you haven't finished supper." Her other mother argued, but she was already on her feet, and she turned to head to her bedroom. "Yinnie's coming soon." Did the world just stop? It felt like it did. "Yinnie's dead." Camora said blankly, "Not in this world, she's not." her other mother replied. "Huh." Camora turned to face her, "I suppose I could stay for a bit longer."
The other mother smiled knowingly.
(Bonus points to anyone who immediately knew this was gonna be a Coraline reference. And yes, Camora would fall for other mother's tricks & give up her eyes.)
