As I settled into my usual corner at the café, my phone buzzed on the table, a familiar sound that made my heart skip a beat. I grabbed it, glancing at the screen to see a flurry of messages from Jess and Sam. "Did you hear about that new place?" Jess exclaimed, her eyes sparkling with mischief. "They say it's an escort bar, and it's supposed to be super fancy!"

"No way! I heard they have a waiting list just to get in!" Sam replied, leaning closer, as if sharing a secret. "Like, what kind of clientele do they have? Celebrities? Secret millionaires?"

"Maybe it's a front for something more scandalous!" Jess added, smirking. "I bet they have secret rooms where all the magic happens!"

I rolled my eyes, but a smile tugged at my lips. "You two are ridiculous. You've been watching too many dramas."

Jess shrugged, a playful grin on her face. "What can I say? I'm just naturally curious! Can you imagine the kinds of things that might happen there?"

"Or maybe it's a place where you can meet your soulmate!" Sam chimed in, pretending to swoon dramatically. "A soulmate who just happens to cost a pretty penny!"

I couldn't help but laugh at their antics, but the reality of Lena being part of this world kept tugging at my mind. "What if it's actually super classy?" I suggested, trying to shift the conversation. "Like, with live music and cocktails? It could be like a really fancy dating service."

"Fancy? Please," Jess scoffed. "They probably serve watered-down drinks and play terrible music. It's all about the atmosphere, right?"

I watched as a couple left the bar, arms wrapped around each other, laughter spilling into the night. "What if that's the kind of experience Lena offers? Finding love or offering comfort to women who need it?"

Jess and Sam exchanged glances. "Wait a minute," Jess said, narrowing her eyes. "You've been talking about Lena a lot. You sure she's not part of this 'comfort' experience?"

"Don't even joke about that!" I shot back, feeling my heart race. "Lena isn't like that."

"So, rather than an escort, you think she'd be a costumer?" Sam added, feigning seriousness.

I laughed, but my heart pounded at the thought. "Okay, but seriously, what if she is? Would that be better?"

Amidst the laughter and light banter with Jess and Sam, I felt like I was teetering on the edge of a cliff, uncertainty gnawing at me. What if Lena was working as an escort at The Velvet Rose? The mere thought sent a thrill through me—part excitement, part dread. Did she enjoy it? Was she happy? Or was she a customer, seeking companionship in the same place? Each scenario stirred a mix of jealousy and admiration, leaving me grappling with feelings I couldn't quite understand.

"Get it together, Harper," I muttered under my breath, forcing a smile as I rejoined the conversation. The last thing I wanted was for my friends to notice the turmoil beneath my calm façade. As the laughter resumed, I tried to push my thoughts aside, but the questions lingered, echoing in the back of my mind like a haunting melody.
