Prologue

 "I'm not sure about this..."

"it'll be fine... trust me"

  "Mamma! look, it's a frog!" Little Mary said, never noticing her mother's absence until now. "Mamma? Where'd you go?" She said, all alone in the forest. She had no recognition of how she had gotten there. Suddenly a man, tall and with broad shoulders, approaches her.

  "Who are you, little one?" The man asks.

  Mary looks at him, unsure if she should answer. "M- Mary... Do you know where my mother went?" The man looks shocked for a second, he then smiles and says, "no, I'm afraid not. I did, however, hear a woman talking with someone."

"I want my mommy!" Mary says demanding. The man holds out his hand for the girl to take, Mary looks confused but has the sudden urge to take his hand. She does, and he holds they're hands in front of them both. "I will help you find her... Though I am not sure what will happen" Mary's face lights up at the thought of being able to see her mother again. The man smiles softly, something in him wants to protect this child.

"Hey... mister, what's your name?" Mary asks the man, looking up at him with her wide cat-like eyes.

"Rioben... I'm the ruler of the Court of Termites." He replies softly, noticing the similarities. he looks dumbfounded for a moment. "Child... who is your mother?"

"She lives in the house on the hill up there" Mary points to a small house on the hill, it's beautiful, truly beautiful. Rioben looks at her with sudden realization. Mary is my kid. And a halfling at that. "Mary... why don't you come with me... to my court, we'll take care of you"

"But, what about my mom?" Mary seems uncertain about this, and quite unset that this was even brought up. It seemed to her that leaving her mother wasn't an option, even if she had no idea where she was. "I will send guards to find her and bring her to my court... it's not safe for you to be here alone."

"You promise?" Mary didn't know that this was her father, she didn't even know she had one. And for some odd reason, she trusted this man.

"I do." Rioben responds sincerely.

He starts to lead her back to his Court. As the walk Mary asks questions, Rioben answers them to best of his abilities. Although he has no experience with kids, he wants to try to raise her, and help her the best he can...

A/N: Thanks for reading!! and this will be solely based on the cruel prince, i will try to change the plot a little, but i have big plans for this character!! Chapter 1 should be out maybe later today, or sometime next week.
