In the small examination room of Hospital Dary, Alya's heart was pounding as if it was trying to break free from her chest. Antiseptic and sterilization seemed to instill a mild panic within her but she didn't care. Her eyes moved from one frame to another as she studied the dull white of the walls and the dried up motivational posters dangling around the periphery. Everything was dull and ordinary for her until she found herself in front of a live pregnancy test kit. "You're pregnant," the doctor had said to her. It was meant to be a normal checkup but had turned everything in her life upside down.

The realization was awful; Liam's boyish face lit up in her head as someone who had once filled her life with love and passion - but that love was now gone. The thought of the two of them together for five years is somewhat amusing because it paints a picture of a beautiful dream. But his treachery changed that picture into countless fragmented shards.

Alya recalled the day she saw him in the alley, how effortlessly he was kissing a girl and how happy he seemed. This memory, so vividly imprinted within her, repeatedly and tormentingly surfaced, full of the most distressing details. She lost her footing and all the strength within her as their gaze locked instinctively; it was an unforgettable glance.

"Why are you here, Alya?" she said under her breath, trying hard to come to terms with what was happening. With the examination table edging into her palms, she remembered she had to concentrate, lest the tears spilled over. She had a baby to consider at such times.
