My grandma always told me stories, stories about her childhood. When the four nations lived together in harmony. You could be friends with anyone, from any nation, and no one cared. You laughed with them, enjoyed their company. Every 5 years there was a world wide festival to celebrate the different bending types. The avatar, master of all four elements, would come representing their nation and show the world how united we were with their bending techniques. She said it was the most magical thing she'd ever seen.

When my grandma gave birth to my mom she had wanted her to experience life just like she did, with wonder in her eyes and curiosity in her heart. That's how it started, but everything changed when the fire nation attacked. They thought themselves superior to all other nations, and since the world was at peace for so long none of the other nations were prepared for a war. So the fire nation won, they took everything from the other nations, kidnapped prodigy benders, killed innocent people, and worst of all. Tortured and killed the avatar.

That was 45 years ago, the fire nation still rules over all other nations. My family was taken about 5 years ago by the fire nation. I wasn't at the village when they stole my family from me and I beat myself up about it everyday, I could have been there to save them, to help in some way.

That day I begged my mom to let Hunk and I go penguin sledding. It took a lot of convincing but she finally let us go. After a couple hours we heard loud crashing noises and rushed back home but we were too late. The fire nation sailed away on their giant ship with not only my family but more than half of my village, they left the elderly and most of the women. My grandmother Patty was in distress that her son and grandchildren got taken from her. Once she saw me she broke down even more and we held each other crying. I'm determined to get my family back from the fire nation. I've been training ever since then trying to perfect my bending. This is where we start the story, training, training and more training.

"Lance your stance is wrong" I hear grandma tell me for what seems like the 5th time today

"I know grandma" I say in annoyance

"Clearly you don't know dear or I wouldn't have to keep reminding you"

"This is so stupid, I was able to get this before, what's changed" I say frustrated

"Honey maybe you should take a break, you've been practicing since sunrise"

"I need to get better grandma it's the only way to save them"

"I understand that, but over practicing is just as bad as not practicing enough. Go out with Hunk and take a break"

I sigh heavily and relax my muscles. Grandma is right, I shouldn't over practice, straining myself is only gonna make it worse. "Fine"

"Lovely, when you get back I'll have dinner ready"

I hug grandma goodbye and make my way to Hunk's family tents.

"Hi Kaipo" I say greeting Hunks' nephew, "Is your uncle inside?"

"He's out back fishing with dad right now"

"Thanks buddy" I say ruffling his hair and making my way towards the back of the cooking tent

Once I round the corner I see Hunk and his uncle Filo sitting on rocks fishing. Seeing them smiling and enjoying eachothers company almost makes me sad. Hunk still has his whole family with him to enjoy life with. Yes, I do have my grandma but sometimes I wish I had my dad or brothers to do things like this with.

I sigh to myself and make my way over to the two.

"Hey guys"

"Oh Lance, how are you doing?" Filo says turning to me in his seat
