The next morning, I woke with a sense of urgency, the weight of my newfound reality pressing heavily upon my chest. I had to understand the curse better, to learn how to control it before it could unleash its dark potential.

My phone buzzed, breaking the silence. It was a message from Aisha, my best friend and confidante. "Coffee? I need to hear about the latest case!"

I smiled, feeling a spark of normalcy amidst the chaos. "Meet me at our usual place in half an hour."

I set out, the familiar streets of Delhi whirring past me. The aroma of brewing coffee and freshly baked pastries greeted me as I entered our favorite café. Aisha was already there, her dark curls framing a face lit up with curiosity.

"There you are!" she exclaimed, her eyes sparkling. "What's the latest?"

I took a deep breath, the weight of my recent discoveries heavy on my mind. "Aisha, it's not just another case. It's about Druvan Dutta's murder, and it's... complex."

"Complex how?" she pressed, her brows knitting together with concern.

I glanced around the café, ensuring no one was listening. "I think his death is connected to an ancient curse—one called Narbali. And there's a chance I might be tied to it."

Aisha leaned in, her voice low. "Wait, what? You? Tied to a curse? Are you serious?"

I nodded, the weight of my words settling between us. "I visited the orphanage and discovered a link to Druvan's mother. It turns out she dabbled in dark magic. I might be the only one who can confront this."

Aisha's expression shifted from disbelief to concern. "Vaidehi, you need to be careful. You're not just dealing with a murderer; you might be playing with forces you can't control."

"I know," I replied, feeling the burden of responsibility. "That's why I'm gathering more information. I plan to meet with a historian who knows about these rituals."

"Good," she said, determination flickering in her eyes. "But you're not doing this alone. I'm coming with you."

As we discussed our plans over coffee, I felt a flicker of hope. Aisha was my anchor, the one person who could keep me grounded amidst the swirling chaos.
