Sabado na, and tonight is Axel's night.
Brina just stepped out of her room and notices her mother and aunt deep in conversation.
She approaches them with a curious smile.
Umupo si Brina sa lumang sofa katabi ang kaniyang nanay. "What are you two talking about? Masyadong seryoso eh." She said with a smile.
Her aunt smiles back. "We were just catching up. Your mother was telling me about your interview last week."
Brina sighs."Yeah, it didn’t go so well. I really thought I had a shot, but... you know how it is."
Hinaplos ng nanay ni Brina ang kamay ng anak. "I know it’s tough, sweetheart. But there’s always another opportunity around the corner."
Her Aunt leaning in. "Speaking of opportunities, Hija, I just heard from my friend Hiromi in Japan. She’s looking for someone to work as a maid."
Brina's eyes widening. "Talaga ho? Japan?"
"Yes! Ikaw agad ang pumasok sa isip ko. It could be a great change of scenery and a fresh start!" Masayang sagot ng kaniyang tita.
Brina smiling brightly. "Wow, that sounds amazing! I’m really interested. Lalong lalo na at Japan yon, i love anime! I love everything about Japan! By the way, What do I need to do?"
"Just gather your papers and other documents as quickly as you can. Hiromi needs someone who can start soon. You could leave the Philippines in no time!" Seryosong sagot ng kaniyang tita.
Brina's nodding, excitement buzzing. "Okay! I’ll get right on it. Thank you so much for thinking of me! This could be exactly what I need."
"Sobrang saya ko para sayo, Nak. Just make sure to stay focused, and don’t rush too much."
Masayang tugong ng nanay niya sa kaniya.
"I won’t! I’ll call some places to get my documents ready." Nakangising aniya sa nanay .
Hours Later, Brina books a taxi and gets in. As she sits back in the seat, she begins to feel a mix of excitement and nervousness.
"Okay, Japan is one thing… but Axel’s place. (pauses) And Jerome will be there too. Why did I agree to this?" Wala sa sariling banggit niya.
(She takes a deep breath, her mind racing.)
"Just keep it cool, Brina. You’re going to cheer for Axel, not dwell on the past… and definitely not on Jerome or Miya." Brina's murmuring.
Arriving at Axel’s home, she glances in the mirror, trying to compose herself.
"You got this, girl. New opportunities and new beginnings. Just a little bump in the road; that’s all." Aniya pa bago tuluyang bumaba sa taxi.
As she gets out, her heart pounds louder, but she stands tall, ready to face whatever awaits her.
