POV: Axel

I run up the stairs, startled by his dad's fury. He wasn't usually like this and was almost always a reasonable man. He would often find it funny when I would sneak into their basement to hang out with Ajax. What happened?

I leave the house, and immediately spot the girls walking down the driveway, pulling out the device that brought them here.

"Wait!" I yell, running up to them. They stop, turning around.

"What?" Nyx snaps when I reach them. "I...I don't know what got in to Ajax's parents, their usually not like this." Nyx scoffs.

"Listen Axel, we appreciate the help you two gave us, but maybe it's time for us to go home."

Amber puts her hand on Nyx's shoulder. "Nyx, are you sure we should leave? Look how nice it is here."

She hesitates, then shakes her head. "Guy's, we're not meant to be here. Can't you see that? We should return to our own time stream."

...

"I have an offer for you." I stutter.

"What?"

"Well, you guys could come to my house. We have a tree house and-"

Nyx's eyes widen in rage.

"No, I'm done trusting everyone here!" She turned to Amber and Talia.

"Trust's gotten us nowhere." she whispers.

Talia steps forward beside me. "I...I'm willing to go with Axel. I know you two have more experience in the lab than me, so maybe this is for the best."

Amber sighs, but follows. "Wherever you go Talia, I'll always be by your side."

They look expectingly at Nyx. She gives an exaggerated sigh, while rolling her eyes. "Don't say I didn't warn you two." she mutters.

"Right..." I mumble. "Follow me. My house has a huge backyard, with a treehouse. I used to play in there a lot when I was younger. It's the perfect hide out."

"Wait..." Talia begins. "I'll go with you no question. B-but after what happened with Ajax's parents, i-is it really worth the risk?"

I sigh. I was willing to try. "Guy's, I'm willing to offer you temporary shelter so you can sort things out. Maybe you'll never have to go back there."

They nod, while Nyx glances at me doubtfully.

Nyx was the oldest, sharpest, and was less likely to trust someone blindly than the other two.

I could tell she heard the doubt, in my voice as well.
