*Scary Godmother*
~*~
She was a lot like those girls in the stories. Wendy, Alice, Dorothy, Sarah. Even the Pevensie sisters Susan and Lucy. Just like them, Hannah was transported to another realm where she made friends who became family. Where she felt she belonged. A realm that felt more like a home than her actual home. But just like them, the real world found its way of keeping her and making her forget.
Well, partially. Anything she does remember from the Fright Side she always assumes is just fragments of dreams she's had when she was little. Dreams so intense, so real, that she still remembers them at 18 years old. Fragments that she likes to draw in her sketchbook from time to time.
And there's one particular character in her dreams and drawings that makes her stomach flutter, heart race, and face flushed. And even though she knows the red eyes she draws are nothing more than colored pencil on paper, she can't help but feel that the pair of eyes were once real to her, once upon a time...
Because there's only so much she can remember from her dreams when she awakens; limited details that she's able to express in her sketchbook. But him? She'll never forget his every detail. Never forget his glowing blood red eyes, spiky black hair that points out in every direction, smooth pale, almost gray skin, crooked smile, and the sharp fangs that linger underneath his lips.
She'll never forget this boy who she's never met. This boy who is not real. This boy who is quite literally the guy of her dreams. But unbeknownst to her, she's already met him before. Unbeknownst to her, he is very much real and has been waiting a very long time for their reunion.
A reunion that neither him or her would ever think would happen. Her because she thinks he's merely a character her mind had made up, and him because he thought he lost her forever and that reuniting would never come to be.
That never stopped his search though. Despite logically knowing he'd never find her again, his hope that resided deep within him kept him going on in his search. While he was in her dreams, she was in his too. Not as a made up character, but as someone real who he is desperately and hopelessly in love with. Someone who he prays he will meet again and who will stay around should they ever meet again.
"Orson?" comes the voice of his mother on the other side of his coffin. "It's time to get up. Scary Godmother is awaiting us."
And so, Orson rises from his coffin, readies himself for the party, and leaves with his parents for Scary Godmother's annual Halloween Spooktacular. It hasn't been much of a party though since Hannah's been gone. It's more like...a lame get together. Sometimes he wonders if Halloween still holds a special place in her heart, or if it is a sad reminder of all the Halloweens they've spent together. That's how he's felt about it these last five years. Does she dread the holiday now too? Does she dread the pain the memories bring? Does she even remember them? Remember him?
Sometimes he wishes that she does dread the holiday because the idea comforts him. That it makes her sad because it reminds her of him and makes her miss him. But then he feels guilty because Hannah doesn't deserve to be sad like him. She deserves to be the happiest girl in the world. Even if it means he's not by her side.
And while something has indeed felt like it's been missing from Hannah's life for years during the Spooky Season, she still finds joy in Halloween. She doesn't feel sadness at Orson's absence because...well...she can't miss something that she believes was never real. She knows him as fantasy. Fantasy that somehow feels familiar. But despite the familiarity and the yearning for something she feels she has lost–but doesn't know what–the immense levels of serotonin that fills her body never halts at the first sight of Halloween candy in a store.
