*Scary Godmother and Rise of the Guardians*
~*~
"Scary Godmother, have you ever been in love?"
The question took the red headed witch off guard. So much so, in fact, that she gasps and nearly dropped her tray of roasted pumpkin seeds. Quickly, she sets them on top of the stove and takes off her oven mitts. "Pardon me, Hannah, I think I might have misheard you. What did you say?"
Sixteen-year-old Hannah asked her question again, eyeballing her godmother curiously. "I asked if you've ever been in love. I'm sorry. Is it a touchy subject?"
"Of course not, my dear!" Scary Godmother assures her, hating that she indeed heard her right, and also hating that she lied. It's a touchy subject indeed, but...if her goddaughter wants to know, Scary Godmother will be truthful. "Well...actually, yes. Yes, it is a touchy subject, but I don't mind telling you, Hannah. I have a feeling I know why you asked."
It was clear as a crystal ball that Hannah is head over heels in love with the vampire prince Orson. And it's very obvious that he feels the same. The only issue is that the two love bats are blind to each other's very obvious feelings.
A blush forms on Hannah's cheeks, and she looks away, embarrassed. "You do?"
Scary Godmother giggles. "Oh, Hannah. Even Skully, who has no eyes, can see the love you have for Orson."
Hannah's blush deepens, but she doesn't deny it. "Is it that obvious?"
"Very."
Hannah groans and buries her face in her hands. "Ugh this is so embarrassing."
Scary Godmother flicks her hand, using her magic to pull out a seat, and sits in it, taking hold of her goddaughter's hands. "Oh, no, hun. Love isn't embarrassing at all. I think it's beautiful, but if it's any consolation, I've been embarrassed too about my feelings."
Looking up from her hands, Hannah asks: "Are you sure you want to talk about it? I get the feeling that it didn't end well."
Scary Godmother smiles sadly. "Well, not exactly. It didn't end the way I wanted it to, but we're still good friends. Sort of. I send him a Spooky Christmas basket every time his holiday comes along."
"Holiday? Wait, do you mean Christmas is his holiday?" Hannah repeats with the tilt of her head.
"Yes. You see, my first and only love was named North. Or as you might know him as...Santa Clause." Scary Godmother braced herself for the girl's shocked face and possibly loudness.
"What?!" Hannah screeches, eyes wide. "No way! How did you guys meet?"
Scary Godmother chuckles. "I met him about 300 years ago, give or take, a few months after the Sweden Witch Trials in 1675. It was the following Christmas after all hell had broken loose. He could sense what I was. A witch, but not just any witch. Not a human witch. At least, not anymore. I had died during the trials. I was the only victim that actually was a witch, but not even my magic could save me. I was chosen by the Man in the Moon to come back to earth to be a protector of children. A Guardian. The Guardian of Bravery and the Spirit of Halloween. My new purpose was to bring courage to scared children, to help them face their fears, especially on the 'scariest night of the year'. And let me tell ya, that no good Boogeyman Pitch Black, sure did give me a run for my money."
Hannah giggles, making Scary Godmother smile. She hasn't spoken about her past in decades. It was hard when she was first opening up to Skully way back when—he's the only one that has ever known—but she found that telling her story was easier than she thought it would be. Maybe it's because Hannah is just so easy to talk to.
