"Is everything to your liking, your majesty?" Said the maid backing away from a man who was on a raised podium, neatly placing her hands on top of her skirt.America studied himself in the mirror which was placed in front of him. He was wearing a tailored suit that was mostly a deep navy blue with gold and white accents. A red piece of fabric around his waist, holding up his sword which was on his left hip.
Everything was picture perfect, just like he was.
With a wave of his hand, America sent away the maid and sighed inside his head. Shoulders becoming slouched and rubbing a hand over his face.
A sharp pain reverberated throughout his body, causing a shiver to go down his entire body. He silently cursed in his head as he gripped his wrist until the throbbing subsided.
A shaky breath exited his body as did a tired look on his face. America couldn't stay in his chamber forever and he knew that.
It was time to go.
America briskly walked throughout the grand halls of his castle, the vast ceilings rose above him as the sound of his white boots clacked against the marble floors.
On the way to the ballroom he passed by various artifacts, each being unique in its own way. A black box on a pedestal, a endless amount of swords, crowns of different styles, and a painting.
The young man stopped just beside the painting, turning his head to face it, listless eyes scanning over every inch of it.
The first painting of the newest royal family, well new if you count 19 years old as new. His mother, France, looked graceful even as a new mom, this fact was proven due to the baby, who was crying, on her lap. Americas father stood just over the chair France was sitting on, a joyful smile plastered on his handsome face.
When America was done looking at the painting he moved over to the next one that was placed close by. In this one a new addition was added to the roster, his younger brother Canada, the only difference really being that Canada took Americas place on Frances lap while he himself stood proudly beside the chair.
For the next painting it also followed the same trend of adding more to it, this time however it was two twins, New Zealand and Australia. His parents looked positively worn out but still happy all things considered.
America had a small grin on his face but it almost immediately dissolved when he got to the final one.
Canada and his mom were gone in it. Almost like they never existed. Now New Zealand took the place of France at the ripe old age of 7. America himself was only 13 although he didn't look like it, a obvious scowl riddled his face, not specifically for anyone but it was clear that he wasn't the only who changed. Nobody was smiling or laughing. It felt uncomfortable for America to be looking at it.
He couldn't take his eyes off of it until the sounds of music and laughter coming from down the hall filled his ears. Looking down the walls of the castle he could see a door slightly ajar, letting some of the warm orange glow seep out of it and illuminate the empty and dark hallway that was only lit up by the dim blue moonlight shinning through the windows. A figure could be seen standing beside the door with their head down tinkering with something on their wrist.
The person lifted their head and gazed around until they locked eyes with the prince.
Even from a few feet away America could still see his expressionless face.
Germany was the first to move, pushing himself off of the wall he was leaning on and walking towards the prince with his hands tucked behind his back.
"Your late. Again." He judged America silently, his face full of quiet annoyance.
