Hey there to anyone who is reading this! A little bit about this Wattpad book; I wrote this a long time ago in my Senior Year of High School, desperately trying to get this story out to the public, since their had been so little information about it, publicly. I'm now an adult & found this old thing just sitting here, so I figured I should release an update about what's happened since then.
Mark Tarlov sadly passed away on July 31st, 2021 after a battle with cancer. When I wrote this book, I failed to mention how Mark Tarlov led a really interesting life outside of this interesting film, so I want to honor it here.
He was a speechwriter for Supreme Court Justice, Warren Burger while he was still studying in college, then became a lawyer after graduating from Columbia's school of law. He then began work in the film industry at Warner Bros. in 1979 as part of their Business Affairs Division. He first began producing in 1983 on John Carpenter's "Christine", which began a long career of producing many other features.
Tarlov didn't just direct "Temptation" but he also directed the movie, "Simply Irresistible" written by his wife, Judith Roberts, who herself was also an entertainment lawyer. The movie also starred none other than Sarah Michelle Gellar. After "Temptation" wasn't released, Tarlov retired from the film industry and began a career in wine making in 2006, founding the company 'Evening Land Vineyards' which he had great success in.
Tarlov's cancer, according to Roberts, actually stemmed from the 9/11 terrorist attacks, due to the exposure of toxic chemicals and other contamination from Ground Zero. His home was only a few blocks away.
When I had reached out to his company all those years ago, they graciously sent me an e-mail back, saying they had passed along my message to meet with Tarlov but to understand he was very private about his film career. Out of respect for his privacy, I didn't push it any further. I was very grateful, however, that he did consider sitting down with me to discuss this movie.
Whether or not "Temptation" will ever be seen will remain a lifelong question but the people behind it threw their heart & soul into it, and were trying things that had never been done before. The film was very experimental in nature, so the idea of it getting a wide release was out of the question. It may have a place in this world someday, but as of right now, it's lost to time, with the very few bits of information we have on it.
To end this off, I want to thank Adam Pascal, Sydney Forest, Jon Taylor, & Kerry Barden for taking the time to answer my questions & provide me with information that wasn't publicly known and letting me publish it here on Wattpad. To my friends at the time who listened to my insistent ranting about this project & cheered with me when I got new bits of information very slowly but surely. And finally, thank you to Mark Tarlov, for trying something new & using the medium of film in ways that had yet been explored. I hope the world gets to see it one day.
