song juwon tapped her long fingernails against the cold metal of the cafe counter. she blew air in and out of her mouth, puffing her cheeks with every blow out.

the girl checked the time on her phone, seeing that she was five minutes away from closing time. outside, the dark sky scattered with minimal scars engulfed the city.

a gentle wind blew, and she could tell this from the occasional song of the chimes that hung outside the cafe. the girl tugged on the end of her green apron, then walking over to where the mop laid idly.

a sigh escaped her mouth as she remembered who would be opening in the day following. it was going to be youngmi, who always seemed to find flaws in the person who closeds' ability to ensure the spotlessness of the family owned cafe.

juwon knew that although her eyes were heavy, and her legs were beginning to get sore from the amount of hours she had been standing that day, the girl would have to clean to the best of her abilities.

she didn't want to get flamed on the work groupchat.

she continued to slave away with the mop in her hand, then swapping the cleaning instrument for a broom. she then swept the entire wooden veneer flooring until it was spotless.

with gentle and slow music playing in her airpods, she hummed the lyrics of the cas song that somehow made her even more tired than she already was.

the twenty-two year old dropped off the broom in the cleaning supplies closet, then lifting a rag and a spray bottle full of disinfectant spray. once she wiped down the counters and the table tops of the tables, she would finally be able to call it a night and head home to her small apartment.

after a few minutes, she had reached one of the final tables— leaving only the counter left. she pulled her body along the table, stretching her arms back and forth to pick up any dropped food or drinks from the busy day.

she began to ponder about how much longer she would be doing this. working at a cafe, where the pay was fine, but she was straying further and further away from her dreams.

she had been studying hard for the past two years, feeling herself slowly becoming tired of how difficult the work load was and how little time she had to herself between work and university.

she was also struggling to get by through depending on her parents.

that's what led her to find this cafe job, about six months ago. the girl was desperate for income, since she needed some way to be able to pay for her rent and living expenses.

she was grateful that she was able to work and get by with the amount of money she was making, yet she still felt like she was falling behind. her dreams felt more and more distant, and it was as if she would never get to see herself doing what she always wanted.
