R&B crooner Lloyd sung an acoustic rendition of his classic called "You" The rapper featured on the track stood beside him. Both were dressed appropriately for the special occasion. Everyone in attendance donned red or green on Christmas Day. They were nestled into the warmth of a heated cabin in Aspen. The location was ideal for a winter wedding, but their surroundings weren't. It was a spur of a moment thing for the complex baller.
His heartbeat pulsed inside of his ear, gaze steady on his bride-to-be. The guests were wearing pajama sets. His fiancee was sporting an all-white slip that outlined her figure beautifully. The unconventional wedding was taking place inside of the living room. They had just opened presents on Christmas morning, leading to a surprise proposal and wedding all in one day. The mixed reactions of the crowd were expected. A lot of his options were glaring at his choice with envy. One was somewhere in a bathroom, bawling her eyes out. She didn't think greed would lead Gelo to go to such desperate measures. Perhaps the woman didn't know him as well as she thought she did.
An officiant dressed like Santa Claus stood next to him, awaiting the bride who was moving very slowly. Angelo pondered if she was hesitant like he had been for the months leading up to their special day. She was a stunning sight to behold. A beautiful charm for him to wear on his arm.
Glancing back, Mercedes mustered up a reassuring smile for his older brother. More than likely, he was relieved at his decision. The male's jaw tensed, brown eyes staring thoughtfully at his younger counterparts. Their drama replayed inside of his head as a reminder of why he settled for this particular woman.
"Mr. Laurent?" Santa's voice flowed in between his thoughts, drawing him out of them. His head turned towards him to find her standing there. He offered an awkward smile that didn't reach his eyes. She returned it, smiling largely. Her excitement put him at ease. "I'm ready" He took her palms into his.
"Friends, family, and other loved ones, we are gathered here on this very special day-" A woman shot up from her seat, shouting, "Angel, you can't do this!" She was hysterical, face red with tears rushing down it. Another took offense to a simple nickname, popping up out of her chair across from the other ex. "Angel? She calls you Angel, Angel?"
Angelo's eyes shifted awkwardly between both women, lips parted to speak. Words managed to escape his mind at the wrong time. His fiancee cocked a brow, urging him to respond. "I can't believe you let someone else call you Angel. I call you Angel because you're my Angel" Two girls were sobbing in perfect sync with each other. Naomi grew annoyed with them and her son, intervening. "Listen, Angelo has made his decision. He is marrying...."
"No!" Another girl stormed into the room, wearing ski gear and tracking snow into the room. She wasn't even invited to the gathering in the first place. "Angelo is marrying me. I came all the way to Aspen to tell him that I can't live without him. I've been so miserable since he-"
Naomi shoved her out the way and turned sharply towards Mr. Claus. "Santa, please! Let's get this going so we can get this over with"
"But I-" One of the weeping girls was instantly silenced with a death glare from Naomi. Taking a deep breath, Angelo squeezed his choice's hands and forced a smile for her sake. She was wearing confusion and doubt on her visage. Santa continued, "We are gathered here today on this very special day to witness the union of Angelo and..."
Angelo tuned him out. His peripheral caught the missing woman emerging from the bathroom. The people around them vanished in an instant. It was just them two. She wouldn't allow him the pleasure of meeting her eyes again after what he did to her. Regardless, Angelo noticed the pained expression displayed on her features. His heart slowed its rhythm for a moment, threatening to stop completely. Only she had that type of power over him. The beauty took a seat by her lonesome, staring down at the floor. She refused to even acknowledge the wedding.
"Gelo" Mercedes nudged him out of his daze. He darted his eyes around. Every pair was looking right back at him for an answer. Furrowing his brows in confusion, he settled on Santa. "Do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife?"
Instinctively, his eyes moved back to her. Angelo couldn't stop a natural impulse. His guilt and true feelings wouldn't allow him to ignore her. The question lingered, leaving the crowd to wonder if he would utter those two words. The long history between them replayed in a sequence inside of his mind. All the good and bad memories flowed through.
He didn't have to think twice about saying those words to the woman he didn't propose to. "I do"
