-30th of September 1998, Tokyo-

Summer seemed to be slowly disappearing into the thin air.

The weather got significantly harsher - the temperatures went down, it started to rain more often and the sky turned gray.

But the sun decided to happily shine today. It's probably gonna be the last day of the year when you can freely wear light clothes.

And since you and your friend are free, why not make use of the occasion?

Kami promised to take you out to a restaurant today. He said it was one of his favorite ones and that he and his friends always ate there when they were out starving, digging for something good to eat.

You’re looking at his hand, interlocked with yours as you two walk.

Surprisingly, it doesn't really happen that often that you hold hands.

Makes one wonder why is it?

Even after everything you did, with the shameful things in honor, you still feel as if maybe this is still too intimate.

You feel odd when you hold hands.

Sometimes.

Not happy, not sad. It's not probably even an emotion, it's an empty state of mind. A state of observation. A state where your body disappears and your whole being is your inner voice.

You look up at his face, his eyes squinting as the sun blinds him.

Your stomach feels funny as you shyly look away from him, squeezing his hand instead.

Your eyes shift to the small trees, decorating the town square. The leaves are starting to turn this yellowish mustardy color.

“Finally. The bugs will go back to hell, where they belong.” You mumble to yourself over the observation of autumn coming up.

“Hey, bugs aren't that bad, y’know? At least not all of them.” Kami butts in with his protest. “Think of all the butterflies.”

“Pfft.. Apart from butterflies, what's there to be content with?”

Kami smiles. “I dunno. Prolly the mosquitos that bite ya at night!” He suddenly lightly pinches your arm.

“Don’t pinch me, idiot!” Your brows furrow in pretended annoyance as you smack him on his shoulder.

“Don't hit me!” He squeaks back in a high pitched tone. “You know that's considered domestic abuse towards men, right?”

“Shut up before I'll show you what real abuse looks like.”

He laughs. “Don't threaten me! That's a crime too!”

You roll your eyes. “Whatever..”

He chuckles at your behavior.

You two quiet down for a moment, just silently moving towards your destination.

Kami silently letting go of your hand catches your attention.

You look at his hand dangling by his side first, and then at his face, which oddly enough was without a reaction, as if nothing happened.

“Well, we're here, ____!” He happily exclaims as you two walk into the outside seating area.

You look around and smile, content with how it appeared so far.

But then you stop in your tracks as you spot two familiar men sitting around a big table which was already filled with food and drinks, along with a stranger and two free seats.
