Luca's POV

The call comes mid-morning, cutting through the peaceful silence like a knife. Marco's voice is tense, each word laced with urgency.

"We've got a problem, Luca," he says, his voice barely above a whisper. "One of Matvey's men managed to escape. He's sending word to the rest of the crew."

The familiar tension returns, coiling around me like a snake. I clench my jaw, forcing myself to stay calm. "Where's he headed?"

"Back to the city, from what we can tell. He's rallying Matvey's men. This isn't over."

A wave of frustration surges through me. We were so close. "Keep tracking him. Let me know the second you have his location."

As I end the call, I feel Valentina's gaze on me, her expression a mix of concern and understanding.

"What happened?" she asks, her voice soft but steady.

"One of Matvey's men escaped. He's alerting the others."

Her face pales, and I see a flicker of fear in her eyes, but she quickly masks it with a resolve that impresses me every time. "Then we'll handle it."

I nod, appreciating her strength, but the thought of her being dragged any further into this mess eats at me. "I'm going to end this, Valentina. Once and for all."

Her hand finds mine, a silent reassurance that I'm not alone in this fight. "We'll do it together, Luca. Whatever it takes."

I squeeze her hand, feeling a renewed sense of determination settle within me. We're in this together, and I'll do whatever it takes to keep her safe. But as the reality of what lies ahead settles over us, I can't shake the feeling that the worst is yet to come.
