I didn't mean I wanted you to start at the day she was born

well it got you to smile didn't it so I guess that playful slap was worth it because smiling and laughing is what keeps you going when the darkness from the unknown starts to creep in

well in that case thank you for proving me right you are the good in this world you constantly change the lives of everyone around you for the better without even trying and you don't even notice it I know I haven't even known you for forty-eight hours yet but it's kinda hard to miss so thank you for that

your welcome now where were we Alex was one of a kind when she cared for someone you just knew it she loved with her whole heart the most important thing to her was family I guess that's why she was always so protective over it she was my best friend we were like two peas in a pod the one thing we always agreed on with no fail was football so no matter how busy our lives got we always made time for a round of tossing the ball around in the backyard or a football game on TV.the day that she went missing was just a ordinary day she and my ex girlfriend Sophia had made plans to go to the mall in the next town over when they left the mall the sun had already started going down when they were thirty minutes away it started raining which only made the roads even more slick and more dangerous it wasn't supposed to rain that day so they thought it would be safe they had the radio going they loved car karaoke when they were about fifteen minutes away Sophia lost control of the car she hit a patch of black ice she did the best she could to get back in control of the car but it just wasn't enough and they slammed into a tree when Sophia came to a few minutes later she realized that Alex was missing and the passenger door was wide open for months after that we did everything we could to find anything but with there being no cameras or anybody knowing anything it was like Alex just vanished without a trace like she never even existed after months of looking for any details that could lead to her whereabouts we were forced to call off the search and plan her funeral I didn't go so I stayed home and as soon as I heard the car pull out of the driveway I slid into sitting position up against the wall and finally let out everything I had been feeling and holding in for the last couple months I heard my phone constantly going off because of concerned texts and phone calls from everyone but I just didn't care because I wanted to just be alone then three months later I came home during lunch to get something I forgot that morning and I stumbled across some adoption paperwork

well I went back to school and then later that night while we were eating dinner I confronted them about it they said that they had wanted to tell me about it several times but that Alex didn't want them too

what why not

your guess is as good as mine all they said was that they had all agreed that when Alex was ready for me to know then we would all sit down and talk through it together if I
wouldn't have stumbled across that paperwork then I would have never known any better

so there were never any moments that made you wonder

no there wasn't we always seemed like a normal family and for as long as I can remember they have always loved me as their own the night I confronted them about it my mom told me that while she was pregnant with Alex she had went through some complications and it wasn't until after Alex was born that they found out they would never be able to have another baby so that's why they named her Alexandra Grace litt some parents are usually happy with just one child but then the day came when they wanted to have another child and they wanted that child to be a boy so they started contacting some adoption agencies and like they say the rest is history 

oh wow that's crazy

yeah well I guess all families have their own secrets I just wish Alex would have told me before she went missing because now I will never know

well maybe one day y'all might find her and you'll finally get to know why but the question here is how do you feel about it

I feel like it didn't change anything because I will always love them and they will always be my family whether I'm adopted or not
