Silver tensed instinctively, his body straightening up as it always did whenever his father was around.
"Son! What is all this?" His father gestured to the bowing Arcanines and Ninetales, who did not move. The only part of their bodies was their eyes, following the graceful movements of Silver's father.
"We are ending this war, Father," Silver answered.
"War? Have you forgotten what these mutts have done to us?" His voice rose to a shout. "How could you betray us, Silver?!"
"Father. I have not betrayed you. I simply ended the war, to prevent endless amounts of casualties."
"Rubbish! These mutts killed your mother!" His voice cracked at the end, as a little bit of sadness flowed through.
"We must break the cycle of hate in order to begin a new era of peace. We need to move on. All of them agree," Silver said quietly.
"Silver! Get down here, or I will do it myself!"
"No, Father. I will not do as you please!" Silver shocked even himself at his objection.
Silver's father looked at him with a mix of anger and shock.
"Mother would want you to move on. Not continue this endless cycle of hate! She died for a good cause! I intend to follow in her footsteps!" Silver shouted.
"These mutts are the ones that caused her death!"
"Mother loved you for the pokemon you are. Not this twisted Arcanine of hate. Let go, Father!"
For a second, conflicting emotions emerged on his father's face, before they submerged again. "Silver..get down here. Or I will fight you."
"Fight me, then, Father! I love a Ninetales! She loves me back! Even through this war, though we are enemies by birth, a friendship bloomed. You need to do as I did. Let go."
His father's features sharpened as he scowled. "No, Silver. You need to let go of this silly daydream of yours!" His father shot a Flamethrower at him.
Silver dodged it, then hurled a Dragon Pulse.
His father used Extreme Speed to cut through the Dragon Pulse and slam into Silver, knocking him flat.
"I can't, Father. I won't do this anymore!" A Hyper Beam crashed into his father's face, giving Silver enough time to scramble away, but before he was hit with a Thunder Fang.
Electricity ran through his body, making his body shiver and tremble. No. He would not give in. He forced himself to stay calm, though inside he was beginning to panic. He had no shot of beating his father, a war general and strategist.
Everything Silver knew his father had taught him.
An idea occurred to Silver.
He began using Flamethrower as he spun on the ground, creating a spin of flames around him.
"What ridiculous strategy is this?" Silver's father asked, snorting. "You have become soft and weak, Silver. This is the result of you hanging out with a mutt." His father charged in with an Extreme Speed, about to finish Silver off. He didn't question Silver's weak flames spinning around Silver one bit.
As Silver's father got close enough to attack, Silver quickly switched from a weak, held back Flamethrower to a powerful, full on Fire Blast.
"Whoa!" Silver's father was swept into the air by the powerful spinning rotations of the flames, being lifted high up before Silver introduced a Dragon Pulse then a Hyper Beam into the mix. The flames danced in the air, creating a multicolored attack that swirled around Silver's father before eventually hitting him with ear splitting explosions.
Silver's father hit the ground hard, heaving.
Silver got up, approaching his father. His father stared at Silver weakly. Silver knew he was not going to die, that he was faking it.
As Silver's father sprung up to deliver a Thunder Fang, Silver used Extreme Speed to slam into him.
"Let me carry on your legacy, Father. I am worthy of evolving, and of your bloodline. Please. End this war," Silver pleaded.
His father's eyes glimmered with emotions.
"How..? I can't. I can't move on from your mother."
"You will, Father. It just takes time," Silver said softly.
His father closed his eyes, letting out a deep sigh. "I admit defeat. Carry on, Silver. You now carry my legacy."
He bowed to Silver.
Simultaneously, a roar of cheers erupted from the Arcanines and Ninetales, that they could finally call a truce.
"Who will be our new leaders, now that Talia and your father are renounced from the thrones?" A Ninetales asked, bowing.
"Without question, it will be Silver and Eve. Lovers but both leaders of clans. Just like Archie and I. I feel as if I've gone back in time. That you two are Archie and I, just reincarnated in different bodies," Cinna said, rising from the ground.
A bloody scar was visibly on her shoulder.
"Cinna! Your shoulder!" Eve gasped.
"It's okay. It will heal," Cinna assured her.
"It will scar too," Eve said, staring at the bloody fur.
"No matter. I'd gladly die for an alliance, remember? So I think this is a win for me," Cinna said with a smile. "Now go on, embrace your lover."
Eve turned to Silver. Sunlight gave off a soft golden glow from her fur.
Silver was at a loss for words. Even after the battle, she was beautiful. More beautiful than SIlver had ever seen her.
"I vow to protect you..with my life," Silver breathed.
"I vow to protect you too," Eve said with a shy smile.
Silver pulled her in for a long kiss. Everyone chuckled. Even Silver's father gave a light smile. It softened his features, made him appear younger.
"I love you, Eve," Silver whispered.
"I love you, Silver," Eve said. "With all my heart."
They kissed again, wrapped in a warm embrace. The War of Nines had finally, after hundreds of years, come to an end. All because of two lovers. Silver and Eve.
