HERMIONE POV

The sixth year of hogwarts approached, and I couldn't wait after such a boring summer.

As I do every year, I arrived at Ron's house a week before school starts. As much as I loved Harry, spending a little of time alone with Ron was nice. I got the sense that he was starting to get a little more comfortable with me, like catching him sneaking glances at me before he abruptly looks away, smiling a lot more, and being a little more expressive in his actions. For example, wiping toothpaste off my lip, like he just did. I couldnt help but feel excited when he did that. I finally didn't feel hopeless everytime i thought about us.

A few days after Harry arrives, this time greeting us with a hug and not with a row like he did last year after the summer.

DRACO POV

I step onto the platform with my mother, adjusting my black suit.
This is the moment I've been waiting for, a chance to prove myself worthy to the dark lord. My eyes land on the Weasley family, Harry and Hermione. I roll my eyes, scoffing.
"You'd never think they were pure-blood, the way they behave. It's bad enough associating with mudbloods, never mind know-it-all's like Granger." I state arrogantly, feeling irritated by the sound of their laughter.
My mother stares at me, putting a hand on my shoulder. "Know-it-all, you say?" She says, and I know what she's suggesting.
She's been talking about nothing else all summer, since I got chosen for the task of mending the vanishing cabinet.
"Don't be stupid, mother. I'd rather be murdered by the dark lord than be within 10 feet of her." I say firmly, not even considering going to her for help.
She grips my shoulder with her nails, almost enough to hurt. "Don't be so arrogant, Draco. If you don't pass this task, he could kill us all. Nevermind what your father tells you. You need all the help you can get, no matter who it's from." My mother whispers, staring at me with a serious face.
I sigh, and nod my head. "I'll think about it." I mutter, even though I won't. No way would I associate with her of all people. "You better, now go." My mother says, not whispering anymore. She kisses my cheek, and I head towards the train.

HERMIONE POV

As i step onto the Hogwarts express, i feel that familiar wave of comfort and excitement for studying in the library in the late hours of the night with the rain filling the silence. Walking through the train with a slightly dreamy expression, i suddenly bump into someone. "Sorry-" I start to say, until I look up to see Draco Malfoy.
"Watch yourself, Granger." He mutters, before sliding past me. I watch his frame walk away, surprised at his lack of wit. No sarcastic comment? I think to myself before shrugging it off and finding an empty compartment.
I roll my eyes as Harry and Ron go on about how 'Draco Malfoy is one of them'. "I'm telling you, I saw it!" Harry exclaims. "What'd you-know-who want with a git like Malfoy?" Ron says, munching on his pumpkin pastie. "I mean, he's quite good at charms. He got 94% on his O.W.L's, Yknow." I state, a hint of jealousy in my voice. "Charms class won't help him in the real world, Hermione!" Harry argues, gesturing with his hands. I sigh, nodding my head, not bothered to argue back. Especially not for Malfoy, he's not worth the breath.

Finally, the train arrives at Hogwarts.
Once we're all settled in, Harry, Ron and I head down to the start-of-term feast.
Usually it's very lively and joyful, but this time it wasn't. It felt different, darker than usual.
Dumbledore even mentioned you-know-who, which caused a few gasps from the students.
I looked around the hall, and my eyes landed on the Slytherin table.
Crabbe was nudging Malfoy with a mischievous smile, but Draco just looked out of it. There was definitely something different about him this year.

As soon as the feast ends, Malfoy was the first to get up and leave. Where is he going in such a hurry? I wondered, before shaking off the thought and heading up to the Gryffindor girls dormitories.

I say goodnight to Harry and Ron, before walking up the stairs to the girls dormitories and falling straight to sleep after a long day.
