Colin wouldn't find out that day if she actually jumped or not. If she had actually gone to that extreme. He would find out later. When Audrey herself told him it was true.
Everyone was shocked. No one would jump in after her. Not when there was such a risk of drowning. Everyone knew she was dead. There was no other logical explanation.
But she wasn't. She was alive when a poorly controlled tsunami drenched the boat. She was alive when she rode that tsunami and landed, jolting and ungracefully, on the deck. She was alive when she set fire to the boat. She was alive when seaweed attacked the boat, anchoring it. She was alive when she damaged the boat beyond repair. She was alive when she killed five men in as many minutes. She was alive when a hurricane appeared out of nowhere. She was alive when half the men were dead and the ship was about to sink. She was alive when she passed out from exhaustion. And she was alive when a backup ship came, saved the men who were still alive, and captured her once more. She wasn't dead. But she wasn't safe either.
