THE NEXT FEW weeks blurred into a whirlwind of creativity as valerie and billie dove into the recording process. they spent hours in the home studio, surrounded by instruments, cozy couches, and a slight mess of cables and music sheets scattered around. it felt more like a hangout than a studio, which was part of what made it so special.
valerie sat cross-legged on the floor, headphones on, her voice flowing into the mic. "let's try that again, but can we add a little more feeling to the chorus?" she called out, glancing toward finneas, who was adjusting levels from a chair across the room.
"you got it!" finneas replied, enthusiasm radiating from him as he leaned into his work.
billie lounged back in a chair nearby, a wide smile on her face as she listened to valerie's take. "you sound amazing, val! that last run was everything."
valerie flushed at the praise, a mix of shyness and pride swelling inside her. "thank you! but you know it's your music too. we're in this together."
"of course," billie said, her tone teasing. "but let's be real, you're the star here. i'm just trying to keep up." she put on a faux dramatic face, hand over her heart. "how did i get so lucky?"
"right?" valerie shot back with a grin. "just don't forget me when you're up on stage, accepting your grammy."
finneas piped up, nodding as he adjusted some knobs on the soundboard. "this is definitely a grammy-worthy track," he said with a confident grin. "i mean, just wait until you hear the final mix."
"no pressure, right?" valerie said, rolling her eyes playfully.
"nope, just go with the flow. let's get this chorus down one more time," billie encouraged, leaning forward, her focus entirely on valerie.
the atmosphere shifted as they worked, the initial excitement turning into determination. valerie took a deep breath and leaned into the mic, giving her all. after a few takes, they nailed it, and the room filled with a sense of accomplishment.
"nailed it!" billie cheered, fist-pumping the air. "that's exactly what we need!"
"for real. you guys are killing it," finneas added, his pride clear. he began tweaking the final mixes, layering in background vocals, while billie and valerie huddled together on the floor with a few notebooks and instruments, brainstorming ideas for final touches.
"what if we add a little harmony here?" valerie suggested, pointing at her notes. "i think it could bring out the emotion in that section."
"good call," billie agreed. "let's try that."
as they recorded the final parts, they fell into a rhythm, the playful banter continuing between takes. billie occasionally tossed out random thoughts, which kept the mood light.
"you know, if we get a grammy, we should totally make a speech about pizza," billie joked, her eyes sparkling with mischief.
"i'll bring the pizza! i'm not sharing any of it with anyone else," valerie shot back, laughing. "we'll be the pizza queens of the music world."
finneas glanced over, shaking his head with a smile. "you two are ridiculous."
"and you love it," billie replied, sticking her tongue out at him.
they continued recording, the clock ticking away, but the energy in the room felt electric. they were so close to wrapping it up. when they finished, billie leaned back against the couch, visibly relieved. "i can't believe how far we've come with this song."
"right? it's insane," valerie said, feeling a rush of gratitude for the moment, for this process, and for the connection that had formed between them over the past few weeks. "this is definitely gonna be a hit."
"we've got to get this track to the world," billie said, her excitement contagious.
as they finished up, they all exchanged high-fives, knowing they had created something special together.
