As Charlotte lay in bed, her mind was conflicted. On one hand, she couldn't deny the intense connection she felt with Simon and the beautiful moments they had shared together. But on the other hand, there was a nagging sense of unease that she just couldn't shake off. She knew that Simon still carried heavy emotional baggage from his past, and as much as she wanted to support and help him, she also feared getting too entangled in his struggles.

As their bodies intertwined, she couldn't ignore the fact that Simon hadn't fully unpacked his past yet. And while the thought of being with him through thick and thin tugged at her heart, she also knew that she needed to protect herself and not get lost in his darkness. It was a heartbreaking realization, but one that she knew was necessary for both of their healing processes

Simon stirred beside her, but his eyes remained closed. Charlotte gently moved away from him, her body still trembling with the aftermath of their lovemaking. She slipped out of the bed without waking him, her heart heavy with sadness.

The stillness of the night enveloped Simon as he slowly pried open his eyes. He was met with an empty bed, the sheets on Charlotte's side untouched and cold. Not a single sound echoed through the room, not even the gentle rustling of fabric from her departure. The absence of her warmth sent shivers down his spine, emphasizing how alone he truly was in this moment. He couldn't even hear her footsteps as she left, leaving him to wonder when exactly she had slipped away from their shared space.

His heart ached as he remembered their intimate encounter earlier in the day, the tenderness and passion they had shared.

He searched the room, looking for any sign of her, but she was nowhere to be seen.

After forcing himself to get out of bed, he eventually found a scrap piece of paper on the counter with a note addressed to him.

The message simply stated, "Simon, we can't go on like this. Our connection is too intense and your past still haunts you. It's best if we take some time apart. This is a journey you need to face alone. Seek therapy and find ways to overcome the pain that Tess has caused you. You deserve to heal."

Simon read the note over and over, his heart sinking with each word. The pain of losing Charlotte was almost too much to bear. He had been so sure of their connection, but now it seemed like it was slipping away from him.

After countless unanswered calls and texts, he finally mustered up the courage to go to her apartment. He knocked on the door with shaking hands, but there was no answer. He tried calling out her name, but only silence greeted him. The realization that she was truly gone hit him hard, and he slumped against the door in defeat. No more begging or pleading could change her mind now.

As the days passed by, Simon found himself struggling to function, caught in a whirlwind of emotions. He would spend hours staring out of the hospital windows, lost in thought, replaying the memories of his time with Charlotte over and over in his mind.

The silence of the hospital was deafening, the hum of the machinery and the chatter of the nurses feeling like a mockery of the life he thought he would share with Charlotte. He would find himself lost in the sea of patients, each one a reminder of the human connection he had lost.

Once he realized that Charlotte was not going to change her mind, the first thing Simon did was request to be assigned to different shifts at other hospitals, ensuring that he would not have to work with her. He approached Cavanagh one afternoon and hesitantly expressed his concerns.

Cavanagh listened attentively, his expression filled with concern. He had always admired Simon's professionalism and dedication since he joined the hospital a few years ago. While he had heard about Simon's failed marriage and recent breakup with Charlotte through gossip, he had maintained a respectful distance. However, as Simon shared his feelings, Cavanagh sensed the depth of his pain and vulnerability.
