I sat back, stretching my legs and my body. This bus stop was eerily quiet. I was the only one there. I glanced at my watch: 7:12. I huffed in annoyance. Where are the buses? If I remember correctly, there’s usually a bus that passes by at 7 sharp. But now it's already twelve minutes late, and it’s getting dark.
Ugh, this is all the boss's fault. If he hadn’t ordered us back to the office after that damn survey, I wouldn’t be stuck here. He seems to find joy in making life difficult for others. He can’t live a day without causing some inconvenience.
What should I do if the bus doesn’t come? Walk? No way. Hana is probably still at the office. She’s been working late lately. Understandably, there’s a big project going on.
I glanced at my watch again: 7:14. Oh my God, what am I going to do? My phone is about to die too. Oh Lord, please send a bus my way. Or bring anyone I know who can give me a ride home.
This is so sad. If I hadn’t sold my motorcycle yesterday to pay for my sister, Fira’s hospital bills back in the village, I wouldn’t be in this situation. Hiks, my life is so pitiful. If only I had a boyfriend, at least someone could pick me up.
Beep beep!
"Aaahh..." I jolted in surprise at the car horn, nearly stumbling backward.
A metallic black Honda Civic stopped right in front of me. I grumbled under my breath. Who the heck is honking at me like that? Wait, I feel like I recognize this car.
Soon, the passenger window rolled down slowly. A silhouette of a man was faintly visible from outside. My boss? Ah, no wonder this car feels familiar. Oh, wait, is he offering me a ride? Oh God, is this really an answer to my prayer?
"Don't you want to go home yet?"
I furrowed my brow. What kind of question is that? Does he think I want to stay here until tomorrow?
I stood and leaned into his car, peering inside. "I want to go home, Boss. But the bus hasn’t come by yet."
"Isn’t there usually no bus at this hour?" My boss looked puzzled. "As far as I know, the last one leaves by 6:30."
What? Are you serious? He’s not joking? So that’s why I’ve been waiting forever and the bus hasn’t shown up. Great.
"Well then." My boss's words made my heart race. Oh, thank you, God. You’ve sent me a savior today. "Maybe you could call a taxi. You have their number, right?"
What? He said "well then" not because he wanted to give me a ride? He just wants to give me that ridiculous suggestion? Him? Him? Oh my God.
"My phone is out of battery, Boss." I forced a smile, trying to look as pitiful as possible.
He seemed to think for a moment, taking a slow breath. "Get in. I’ll take you home."
Wow... I smiled widely. Without further ado, I opened the car door. I didn’t mind sharing a ride with the most annoying boss in the universe as long as he could take me home today.
Our ride was quiet and calm. My boss focused on driving, not engaging me in conversation at all. I didn’t feel like making small talk either.
The road ahead was pretty congested. The streetlights had already turned on. Honestly, I was bored. There was nothing for me to do but stare at the traffic. Is there anything in this car I could play with?
"Stop that!"
Huh? My hand, about to touch the glass lion statue on the dashboard, froze.
"Don’t touch anything," my boss said without glancing over. "This car is brand new; I just bought it a month ago, so don’t mess with it."
