14. Double Standard (edited)

         Shortly after going into office, which was about two years prior to us kidnapping him, Matterson received an angry letter from several Chinese government officials regarding trade and exchange through Alaska. They felt that the overseas taxes were too high and thought that the new president would be more willing to compromise in order to maintain friendly relations with Asia. Not wanting to cause tension between the two nations but also not willing to take full responsibility for any miscommunication he then wrote back with a promise for change and turned the issue over to the U.S ambassador for China. Unfortunately, as I’m sure you’ve predicted with how the situation unfolded, the ambassador ignored the issue and refused to take the promised action. From what John said, China grew very impatient very quickly. They sent dozens of angry letters and petitions all to no avail. Matterson, feeling threatened, finally scheduled a meeting in Alaska to discuss the issue “civilly.” However when he met with the officials they were everything but civil. They refused to let any security into the meeting and behind closed doors tied him up and threatened to kill him unless he gave them full cooperation.

Being in no position to compromise (although how he got into the situation still baffles me,) he signed a bunch of legal documents allowing total override of anything he said as President, basically giving over his power as US President to the Chinese government. To make sure the “agreement” was to remain confidential they sent Agent X to watch over U.S governmental affairs where he then acted as my replacement for government security. Landon found out by accident by coming across a series of letters when cleaning up Matterson’s desk and acted as a double agent in order to remain untouchable both with the FSS and China. She initiated operation sacrifice hoping to prove to Chinese Intelligence that she was against American democracy, thus keeping herself safe from Chinese agents. When I found out about it on the plane and my knowledge was somehow leaked to Landon, Agent X (remaining unnamed) decided to intervene. He was the nameless assassin. He sat in the passenger seat of the BMW. Agent X is now somewhere in California. And he wants me dead.

This is the end of part one of the story.
