The holidays arrived with all the excitement of twinkling lights and joyous carols, and Lena found herself caught up in the whirlwind of festivities. The city had transformed into a winter wonderland, with snow blanketing the streets and decorations adorning every corner. Yet, despite the vibrant atmosphere around her, Lena's heart beat with a mix of anxiety and anticipation, knowing that Christmas was just days away.
Elliot had been busy with rehearsals and preparations for his next performance, leaving little time for their planned activities. Although she understood the demands of his rising career, Lena couldn't shake the feeling of longing. She missed their moments together—the laughter, the shared dreams, and the cozy nights spent wrapped in each other's arms.
Determined not to let the holiday hustle overshadow their connection, Lena took the initiative to plan a surprise for Elliot. She had been quietly organizing a special evening, one that would reflect both their personalities and the memories they had created together.
The night before Christmas Eve, Lena transformed her apartment into a festive retreat. String lights twinkled across the ceiling, casting a warm glow over the space. She had baked cookies earlier in the day, the scent of ginger and cinnamon lingering in the air, and had set up a cozy corner with blankets and pillows, perfect for cuddling up together.
Just as she finished arranging everything, her phone buzzed with a message. It was from Elliot.
Hey, can't wait to see you tomorrow! I miss you. Can we meet at your place?
Her heart fluttered at his words, a wave of excitement coursing through her. Of course! Can't wait to see you! she replied, a grin spreading across her face.
As the hour approached, Lena prepared herself, choosing a festive red sweater that brought out the sparkle in her eyes. She poured herself a cup of hot cocoa, topped with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cinnamon, and then anxiously paced her living room, waiting for Elliot's arrival.
When the doorbell finally rang, she rushed to open it, revealing Elliot standing there, his cheeks flushed from the cold and a grin lighting up his face. "Hey! Sorry, I'm late. Traffic was insane," he said, stepping inside and pulling her into a warm embrace.
"Not a problem! I'm just glad you're here," Lena replied, her heart swelling at the familiar warmth of his arms around her. She stepped back, taking in his handsome figure, bundled up in a stylish coat. "You look great."
"Thanks, you do too," he said, his gaze lingering on her for a moment longer before he stepped inside. "What's with all the decorations?"
"Surprise!" Lena exclaimed, leading him further into the living room. "I wanted to create a little holiday magic for us."
Elliot's eyes widened as he took in the cozy setup. "Wow, this is amazing! You really went all out."
"I just wanted to do something special for us," she admitted shyly, her heart racing as she poured them both a cup of hot cocoa. "I thought we could enjoy the evening together and maybe start our own holiday traditions."
He took a seat on the couch, gesturing for her to join him. "This is perfect, Lena. You always know how to make things special."
They settled in, the warmth of the cocoa filling the space as they talked and laughed about everything from their favorite holiday memories to what they were looking forward to in the new year. The easy flow of conversation reminded Lena of just how deeply connected they had become, even in the midst of their busy lives.
As the night wore on, Lena brought out the cookies she had baked—gingerbread men, peppermint bark, and sugar cookies decorated with colorful icing. Elliot's eyes sparkled with delight as he sampled each treat, making exaggerated expressions of approval that made her giggle.
