Christmas Eve dawned bright and crisp, the air filled with the cheerful sounds of laughter and holiday music drifting through the streets. Lena awoke early, the excitement of the day sending butterflies fluttering in her stomach. She had plans to meet Elliot at his apartment later, where he had promised to cook a special holiday dinner for them both—a tradition he had started with his family before he became famous.
After getting ready, she decorated her small apartment with a few more touches of the season: more twinkling lights, some garland draped across her bookshelves, and a fresh batch of cookies cooling on the counter. The aroma of cinnamon and nutmeg filled the air, creating a cozy atmosphere that made her feel warm inside.
A few hours later, Lena bundled up in her favorite coat and made her way to Elliot's place, her heart racing with anticipation. They had talked about spending the day together, a mini celebration of their own before the holiday festivities kicked into high gear.
As she approached his building, she paused to take a deep breath, excitement mingling with a hint of nervousness. This was the first Christmas they would share, and she wanted everything to be perfect.
Elliot greeted her at the door, a wide smile spreading across his face as he pulled her in for a warm embrace. "Merry Christmas Eve!" he exclaimed, his voice cheerful and bright.
"Merry Christmas Eve!" Lena replied, returning his embrace tightly, feeling the comfort of his familiar scent enveloping her.
As they stepped inside, Lena was immediately struck by the holiday decorations that adorned his apartment. A beautiful tree stood in the corner, twinkling lights wrapping around its branches and colorful ornaments hanging from its boughs. The entire space felt alive with holiday spirit.
"Wow, you've outdone yourself!" Lena said, her eyes sparkling with delight as she took in the festive décor.
"Thanks! I wanted to make it special for us," Elliot said, his eyes shining with excitement. "I hope you're hungry because I've got a feast planned."
"Starving!" Lena laughed, following him into the kitchen. She watched as he expertly moved about, chopping vegetables and stirring pots, the scents of roasted garlic and herbs wafting through the air.
"I've got a secret family recipe for the main dish," he said, glancing over his shoulder at her. "It's a roasted herb chicken that my mom used to make every year."
"Sounds delicious!" Lena replied, feeling a rush of warmth at the thought of his family traditions blending with theirs. "What can I do to help?"
"Actually, you could be my official taste tester," he said with a playful grin, holding up a spoonful of sauce for her to try.
With a giggle, Lena leaned in and sampled it, her eyes widening in delight. "Oh my gosh, this is amazing! You're quite the chef."
Elliot beamed, clearly pleased with her reaction. "Just wait until you try the chicken. It'll knock your socks off."
As they continued to cook together, the atmosphere in the kitchen was filled with laughter and playful teasing. They shared stories about their favorite holiday memories, from decorating trees with family to funny mishaps that had happened over the years. The connection between them felt palpable, growing deeper with every moment spent together.
Once the food was ready, they set the table together, placing candles and festive decorations around the dishes. As they sat down to eat, Lena couldn't help but feel a sense of joy and gratitude wash over her. This moment, sharing a meal with Elliot, felt like a dream come true.
They clinked their glasses, a toast to the holiday season. "To us and all the memories we're making," Elliot said, his eyes twinkling with warmth.
"To us," Lena echoed, her heart full as they sipped their drinks.
