***TRIGGER WARNINGS FOR DESCRIPTIVE DOMESTIC ABUSE.***

Hayley is married to Jackson and lives in an abusive marriage with him, Klaus is a lawyer who lives for work and doesn't think about having a family. Klaus meets Hayley when she tries to run away from Jackson after having a miscarriage following a fight. (Hayley graduated in medicine, but stopped working because Jackson was very jealous)

Disclosure--- I researched lightly as far as American law worked for Domestic violence. I needed to structure the law in this story this way for characters....so any readers that are studying law or are lawyers, apologies if this is not accurate.

CHAPTER ONE.

She shuddered when she heard the front door slam with a loud bang. He was in a bad mood again. No doubt it would have been some trifling little thing at work, one wrong word said to him that had enraged him. She was so tired.....and fearful of the man she had married less than a year ago. Jackson Kenner had seemed so sweet when she had met him the previous year, having come into Augusta Georgia general Hospital emergency with a deep gash on his hand from work. He was a logger. Tall, dark haired and bearded, a real southern gentleman.

She had been the doctor rostered on in emergency, when he came in that day. She had cleaned the wound and stitched him up. He had been stoic, amiable, gentle and friendly. Bantering with her lightly. She could see he was interested in her and she had liked his earthy no nonsense natural manner. He reminded her of her recently dead Dad. Her Mom and Dad had died in a car accident three months before. Hayley, an only child, had been heartbroken and now orphaned, adrift. She felt as though she walked through her days a ghost of her former self.

Jackson had asked her out. Hayley had accepted.

Jackson took her out on dates to places she had never been before. Out of the way places that made and served Georgia's traditional food. Khachapuri, a canoe-shaped leavened bread with melted cheese in the middle, butter on top and an egg cracked on top. Khinkali. Shkmeruli Georgian wine. Pkhali. Nigvziani Badrijani. Churchkhela. Georgia's peach is the state fruit and grits are a national must. She sampled them all.
