The sweet giggles of my darling daughter are by far my favorite sound in this world.
Which is why I go along with pretty much everything that makes her giggle. Except for a few things that are just not within the rules.

Running around a grocery store is within the rules though.
Why should I take away a bit of fun while we're running errands?
This way it's more entertaining for the both of us. And it's not like I'm letting her run wild. I always have an eye on her and am a few steps away in case something happens.

And also to make sure not to lose her. Being alone at the store all of the sudden would scare her and that's the last thing I want.

Evie giggles while chasing after me, her little legs carrying her as fast as she can. Now that she's four, she has gotten quite quick and I actually have to hurry to not get caught. I'm not running, but definitely jogging slowly to keep the few feet between us.
Always just enough she can't catch me but if something happened, I'd be there in a second.

"I get you Mommy," she calls, reaching out her arms to me. I check the aisle before turning around and walking quickly backwards.

"I don't think so, I'm so fast," I reply, wiggling my fingers at her.

She tries to reach for them but I pull away in time. Goofing around with her will never get old and I feel like it keeps me young too.
Evie is truly the greatest gift in my life. Even if she came from a one-night-stand in which I simply wanted to figure out if I like men at all.
Turns out, no, I am a lesbian.

Her father was a good guy though, very respectful and kind and I was honest with him after we slept together. Something must have gone wrong though, maybe the condom wasn't quite working because a few weeks later, I figured out I was pregnant.
I was 23 back then, now I'm 27 and not regretting anything.

Was it hard to raise a baby as a single mother? Absolutely, but it was definitely worth it. Besides, I have my parents to help out and my sister.

I stumble into someone and lose my balance.
Shit, I looked back before turning around.

Before I can fall to the floor, two arms catch me, keeping me from a rough collision. The arms are strong, yet soft. They heave me back to my feet a second before Evie runs into me, hugging my legs.

"I got you," she tells me, grinning up at me. I'm slightly overwhelmed by the sudden adrenaline and being caught before slipping. But I shake it off and gently ruffle her hair.

"You did, baby, you're so fast," I confirm, placing a hand on her back when she doesn't let go of my legs.

My breath is slightly faster from running and trembling and my heart still beating faster than normal.
I turn as much as I can to the stranger who caught me.
To my surprise, it's a woman. Part of me thought it was a man but I'm pleasantly surprised to find a brunette facing me.

She's got a few inches on me and has wavy hair falling past her shoulders. Her green eyes watch me with curiosity, her lips curved into a small smile.

"I'm so sorry for crashing into you, I wasn't looking," I apologize, rubbing my hand over Evie's back.

Usually, I pay attention to where I'm going but this woman seemed to have come out of nowhere. Well, that's not quite right, I can see her cart a couple of steps away. We ran until the end of the aisle without me noticing.

"That's okay, I just hope you're okay and not hurt?" She asks, her voice smooth with the slightest hint of an accent that I can't place. Something European maybe?

I quickly shake my head. "I didn't get hurt, thank you for catching me."

If she didn't, I would have stumbled to the ground and Evie might have tripped over my legs. The last thing I want is for her to get hurt. I can live with me bumping my hip or falling onto my butt, but I hate witnessing Evie getting hurt.
It always makes my heart fill with worry within seconds.
