Third POV
Elijah paced his dimly lit office, the tension in his shoulders radiating with each agitated step. His grip on the phone was tight, knuckles white with frustration as he spoke, his voice a low, fierce growl that echoed in the empty space.
"Why didn’t you tell me Caesar and Igor were… involved?” He spat, barely containing his anger.
"Do you realize the mess you’ve thrown me into? I’ve poked the lion here! Now, Caesar will make it his life’s mission to hunt me down for arresting his… lover".
A muffled voice on the other end of the line, crackling with its own irritation, snapped back.
"How was I supposed to know they were together?"
Elijah clenched his jaw, his patience fraying as the anger surged.
"Do you realize what he’ll do now? Caesar’s already powerful, but this? You don’t know him like I do. Now that I’ve put Igor in custody, Caesar won’t let me breathe without making me pay for it. And this was your intel. You put me in this situation!”
"Don’t blame this all on me. If I’d known, I’d have told you. I want Caesar gone as much as you do! He’s ruined my life, left me with nothing!”
"Then maybe you should have done your job right. Because now we’re both in his crosshairs. He’ll tear us apart just for looking at Igor the wrong way, let alone arresting him".
The line went silent for a moment, both men fuming, realizing the grave miscalculation they’d made. Finally, the person on the other end muttered, his voice resigned yet still seething with hatred.
"He still has lost millions and has no idea who did it. Doesn't matter if this idea didn't work out, we still have his white business in our hand".
"Good luck because after this, we’re as good as dead men" Elijah's voice dripping with sarcasm.
With that, he ended the call, tossing the phone onto his desk, the weight of his frustration and fear hanging heavy in the silence.
Igor
As Caesar and I walked into the mansion, the tension of the day's events finally began to lift. We were greeted by Caesar’s parents, who had been anxiously awaiting.
Relief washed over Rose's face the moment she saw me beside Caesar, safe and sound.
"You’re back. We were so worried" She murmured, rushing forward to embrace me with all the warmth and love.
"Good to have you home, son" Lion gave me a strong, approving nod with a gentle smile.
We all then, gathered in the living room, a cozy fire casting a warm glow over the room. Rose brought out coffee and tea, as well as a spread of snacks. I settled into an armchair beside Caesar, a sense of peace enveloping me as I sat among the people who were more family to me than anyone I had known.
We were enjoying some quality time together as a family until Akim arrived and handed Caesar the phone, which he kept on his ear.
After a few minutes, he ended the call abruptly, fingers drumming against the phone in barely controlled rage. The calm that had filled the room only moments ago dissipated, a storm of fury gathering in his expression.
"What happened?” My voice was calm. His eyes met mine, anger simmering just beneath the surface.
"The board of directors got wind of the loss. Millions gone, just like that. They’re calling an emergency meeting to demand answers" He clenched his fists in frustration.
"We had kept this under control until now., then how?...Do you know who could’ve tipped them off?" My gaze hardened, jaw tightening as I processed the news.
"Not yet, but I’ll find out. And as for the board, they’ll get their answers, but it won’t be on their terms" He shook his head, his voice a low growl.
I placed a hand on Caesar’s shoulder, my touch grounding his temper.
We all had dinner after that discussion, and no one brought up the meeting. After many days, Caesar and I slept together. Finally, I slept soundly while in his embrace. 'I love you' and a kiss on my forehead are the last things I recall before falling asleep.
Morning sunlight filtered through the curtains, the next day while I stood by the wardrobe, meticulously buttoning my tailored black suit. Across the room, Caesar was fastening the cuffs of his own sleek dark suit.
Then, we both walked out of the door, exuding a commanding presence that was undeniable, the kind of power that had built empires and shattered opposition. The staff moved aside respectfully when we emerged in front of them.
Caesar and I settled in the car, our expressions unreadable as the car pulled out onto the road, the city stretching out before us as we were prepared to face the board members and assert control over the situation.
After a while, the car stopped in front of Caesar’s towering office building. Our presence was magnetic, commanding the attention of every passerby with an aura that spoke volumes.
The moment we stepped inside, the atmosphere shifted. The staff paused, straightening and bowing respectfully, their eyes downcast, but unable to hide the mix of awe and fear on their faces.
Caesar’s gaze was cold and focused, his expression unyielding while I was composed, but alert, with eyes that swept over our surroundings, taking in every detail. Every employee we passed seemed to instinctively straighten, stepping aside to clear the path.
Not a word was spoken, but everyone in the building could feel the weight of our presence, a silent reminder of the immense power we wielded.
As we reached the elevator, Akim pressed the button and we entered. Then, Caesar glanced at me with a knowing look.
Today would be our day to remind the board and anyone else who dared to question us...why we were at the top.
