"We had a very outstanding student, ah, a sweet girl she was too," Mrs. Brent sighed, clasping her hands together. She always had a tendency to stray away from whatever she was teaching in class and let her sense of nostalgia take over her.
"Excuse me, Mrs. Brent, can you please help me with this differentiation question?" It was Kaden, my best friend since the third grade. His flamboyant sense of style hadn't changed since the day I met him, but his sense of loyalty hadn't changed one bit too, and I was thankful for that.
I shot him a wink, knowing that he only asked that to distract her from whatever long-winded story she was going to launch into, saving the whole class from ultimate boredom. I think we secretly wished she would actually teach us add math instead of always telling us about the past. He shot me a smirk, the same smirk which made him get all the girls, regardless of age.

"Hey, Kaden, the girl Mrs. Brent was talking about just now - what's her name again?"He stabbed his fork into his macaroni cheese lunch. Did I mention that he's a great cook?
"Elise. Why? Do you even believe that she exists?" He shoved his food down his throat.
I watched him gobble down his food. "That's a very beautiful name," I murmured, but Kaden caught me.
He snorted. "I've never liked Beethoven."
I tried to swat his head, but he ducked in time. "That's such an insult to classical music fans!" I exclaimed.
He closed his lunch box. "Whatever. Anyways, I'm off to meet up with my new girl - I hope she's good in bed," he wriggled his eyebrows, but we all knew he was a goody-two-shoes and disapproved of casual sex.
"Anyways is not a word!" I called after him as the cafeteria doors slammed shut.

I let out a small sigh as the cold damp air of the music room hit me. To me, this was my sanctuary - away from the noisy and rowdy kids of this damned school. Kaden constantly teased me about it - claiming that this was the reason why I was still single. Though I suspected that it was because I couldn't pull off a pink shirt like him.
I browsed through the selection of music they had in the bookshelves. A particular book caught my eye - it didn't have a cover, and everything was handwritten, including the title.
It was Fur Elise.
I shrugged. I hadn't played this piece in a long time, ever since I passed my sixth grade on piano. Settling my fingers on the keys, I sight-read my way throughout the end.
Satisfied, I stood up and dusted my hands off the dust. Suddenly, I heard a loud thud behind me. I spun around, shocked. If someone heard me playing so horribly, I would faint.
It was a girl. She had the most beautiful luminous green eyes I had even seen, paired with chestnut brown hair that flowed all the way to her hips.
She looked like she was struggling to stand up, so I quickly strode over to her to help her up.
"Thank you," she said softly, giving me a shy smile. I might have stared at her lips for a little too long.
"Why are you here?" I asked. I didn't intend for it to be rude, but it came out as annoyed nevertheless.
She jumped up, guilt written all over her face. Now that I could see her properly, the way she dressed was a little quaint. She was wearing her school uniform, but her glasses had large frames, which reminded me of the 90's fashion. She had her hair up in a half bun, making everything about her scream 90's.
"I'm sorry, I mean, I'm new here and I heard someone playing the piano so-"
I silenced her by putting my finger to her lip. Her eyebrows shot up, then she quickly looked down again and shuffled her feet. "What's your name?" I asked.
She bit her lower lip, chewing it. "Elise."
Elise? Elise? Now that rang a bell. She must have sensed the panic I had in me, because she quickly moved away and ran to the door.
"I'm sorry again," she said in a timid voice, before fleeing to wherever she had to go. I stared at the door, puzzled.
Well, today has definitely been an interesting day.
