Chapter 4

'You have 24 hours to make your decision and we'll be watching so don't even think about running away'

That thought played in my mind again and again. What can I do I i'll never make it to the mountains in time. I'm fresh out of ideas and it kills me.

But if I don't come up with one soon I'm sure that they will kill me. I get up and start to pace back an forth across the grass. Even though I'm alone I feel as if I'm being watched. I do a quick scan of my surroundings and nothing.

'I give up' I thought to myself. I started to jog towards the mountains and within a few feet I'm into a full on sprint.

'So what of they catch me I know how to defend myself' I continue thinking. I couldn't hear or see any signs of me being followed so I kept on going.

I got to the end of a meadow and realised how far I had gone in a few minutes. 'No one had come after me yet so If I keep going I may get there unharmed'

I took one step forward and realised where I was stepping into. A dark mysterious forest thy no one had ever come back from. But this may be because on the other side is the safe zone.

I thought about my options

1-I stay here and wait to get caught

2-I give up and head back to either those tree kids or join my family in the change

3-go ahead and get to the safe zone or be killed trying

It took me a split second to realise the right decision option 3 was the only one that would decide my fate.

I took maybe 5 steps forward and already I felt unsafe about being here but I had to keep going its what Ebony would have wanted.

'Running through here will make me feel safer' I thought as I took off running. I felt like I was flying the wind pushing my hair back and all the trees and rocks that seemed to fly by it was amazing.

I got to a clearing and thought about stopping but that was before a heard footsteps and I took off running again.

I decided to keep running until I find someplace that is sheltered or its to dark to see personally I'd rather go with option A.

So I keep pushing myself forward even though my legs feel as if they are about to fall off. I keep hearing noises but I'm not sure of they are animals running around or if I'm being followed.

Ever since Ebony left I have always felt like I'm being followed. She always kept me safe. If I was scared of the dark she would use the last of the torches battery to make sure I went to sleep ok.

I heard some rustling in some bushes behind. My heart started to pound as the thing inside emerged.

It was a cute baby deer. I put my hand out to pat it. It sniffed my hand and started to walk towards it.

'BANG'

The deer fell to the ground in its own pool of blood. I jumped back and saw a teenager standing up in a tree the weapon pointed at me.

She is dressed in the same black hoodie as mum was. I start to run in the same direction I came a setback yes but if it got me away from this crazy lady I'd get over it.

I can hear her chasing after me. I can feel her breathing down my neck. I make a sharp left turn around a tree making the girl chasing me fall over.

Now I'm back in course and I'm running at full speed. I take a quick glance at my watch and its nearly up to the 5 hours of freedom left mark

This person must have been sent here to make that decision for me. 'Those bitches' I thinks 'now I'm never even going to think about joining them not that I don't already.

It takes me a few seconds after finishing that thought to realise I was still running.

I look around me to see if there is a place to stop and around a couple of trees there is a cave.

I jog up to the entrance and its pretty dark. Ebony would always keep me safe from the monsters that lie within.

I suck it up and go inside. There are a lot of rocks and its hard to find a good sleeping position but I eventually do and fall to sleep from exhaustion.
