I rolled over and stared at the faint red light coming from the clock on my desk that's across the room. I read, 7:28 with a small am beside the numbers. I rolled onto my back, letting my eyes wander to the watery gray light coming through my curtainless window. Outside I could see light gray clouds that moved slowly across the sky, allowing only the barest hint of sunlight to break through. The green pine trees reached up towards the covered sky, always reaching but never able to touch. The sky remains just as unattainable and mysterious as ever. A constant that one could always depend on. No matter what happens, the sky and sun, the moon and stars, they will always be there.
I looked back at my clock, it now read 7:29. I allowed my mind to drift back to last night. After forcing myself to stop crying and stand up, I finished washing before getting out of the tub. I tried to go to sleep, and I did, for a time. But I woke from a restless sleep in a cold sweat, unable to move my limbs, and staring into the dark. It certainly wasn't the first time, and I knew it wouldn't be the last. It was more likely Bon Jovi would walk through my door than it was for me to fall back asleep. So, here I lay, watching my clock tick off one minute after another until the alarm is set to go off.
I blinked then the clock read 7:30 and a shrill noise blasted from the small rectangle box. It was surprisingly loud for such a small thing. My other alarm clock was quieter and far less aggressive. I wish I still had it. I sat up in bed and pushed the covers off. The sudden rush of cold air sent chill bumps rushing up my arms and legs. My body shook in a quick shiver before settling as I adjusted to the cold air. I set my bare feet on the floor, once again feeling a shock of cold. I stretched out my legs and felt a pop in both my knees and spun my ankles. I lifted my arms above my head and sat up straight, feelings the satisfying stretch of my shoulders and back.
I yawned and rubbed my eyes as I stood. I turned off the noisy clock as I passed it. I opened my door to see my dad coming up the stairs and blinked in surprise. I've only been back for a week but in that time, not once has my dad been home when I wake up. We passed each other as I continued to the bathroom. I wonder what he's still doing here. I went back to my room to get dressed. I put on my maroon-colored bra that had clasps on the back, then a pull over bra, and then a black camisole. I pulled on my plain black jeans and put on some socks before putting on my black combat boots.
I stood after tying them and walked over to my open closet. I couldn't decide what shirt to wear last night but now I don't really care so I grabbed a dark grey t-shirt that had a skeleton sitting up in a coffin, giving a thumbs up. It had the words Never Better on the shirt, with Never being above the coffin and better being below. I had gone shopping and Garrett found it very amusing when I showed him. I put on a red and black plaid button up, but I left the buttons undone. I put it on and then pulled on my black leather jacket.
