"Wake up c'mon wake up." Dogday's voice was gentle yet insistent as he nudged Catnap's shoulder with his cold, wet nose. "I swear if you don't i'm gonna start using annoying pet names, like Mr. Snuggles."

Catnap groaned, his eyes slowly peeling open to reveal the dull gleam of the moon outside. "It's the middle of the night, Dogday. What's so important?" His voice was a gruff purr, thick with sleep.

"Actually it's exactly five forty five in the morning, Mr. Snuggles." Dogday grinned, his tail wagging playfully.

"...Dogday when the fuck do you wake up?" Catnap sat up, pushing his messy purple hair out of his eyes and stretching his long limbs. He yawned, revealing sharp fangs in his otherwise human-like mouth.

"Well, about an hour ago," Dogday said, his eyes twinkling with mischief. "But I figured you wouldn't want to miss the sunrise."

"Jesus christ," Catnap muttered under his breath, but the sight of Dogday's eager expression was hard to resist. He swung his legs over the side of the bed, his bare feet landing on the cool wooden floorboards. The room was dimly lit by the soft glow of the moon outside, casting long shadows across the floor. Catnap stood up, his body protesting with a series of cracks and pops as he stretched his back. "Alright how long is this gonna take?"

Dogday's grin grew even wider. "Just a little hike up to the hilltop, I promise it'll be worth it."

"Cool you're carrying me," Catnap mumbled as he picked up his sleepy form from the bed. He followed lazily behind Dogday, his paws barely touching the ground as the spaniel's energy washed over him like a tidal wave of enthusiasm.

"Heh not gonna happen," Dogday said, his tail swishing with excitement as he led the way out of their cozy cabin. The early morning air was crisp and cool, a stark contrast to the warmth they had left behind. Catnap shivered, wrapping the blanket around his bare torso tighter.

The path up the hill was steep and winding, lined with tall trees that whispered secrets to each other as the wind danced through their leaves. Catnap couldn't help but feel a bit grumpy about being roused from his peaceful slumber, but the quiet beauty of the woods began to work its magic. His eyes grew heavier with each step, threatening to close again.

"You okay back there, sleepy head?" Dogday called over his shoulder, a hint of laughter in his voice.

"I'm fine," Catnap replied, his voice muffled by the blanket. "Just salty" Despite his grumbling, he couldn't completely hide the excitement that was slowly seeping into him. The fresh scent of dew-kissed leaves and the sound of distant critters stirring in the underbrush reminded him of the adventures they used to have.

They reached the hilltop just as the first sliver of sun began to peek over the horizon. "C'mon, Catnap, you gotta see this," Dogday urged, his voice filled with wonder. Catnap reluctantly followed, his eyes still half-closed. As they crested the hill, the sight that greeted them was breathtaking. The sky was a canvas of pinks, oranges, and purples, blending seamlessly into the deep blues of night. The sun's early rays painted the world in warm, golden light, casting long shadows over the landscape.

"Wow," Catnap breathed, his eyes finally opening all the way. He had to admit, the view was pretty spectacular. Dogday looked over at him, his own eyes shining with joy. "See what I mean?"

"Yeah... yeah, it's pretty," Catnap conceded, the sleepiness in his voice giving way to genuine awe. He stepped closer to Dogday, the warmth of his fur surprisingly comforting against the chilly air. Dogday leaned into him, his tail thumping gently against the ground as he took in the sight.

They stood there in silence for a moment, watching as the sun climbed higher, the colors of the sky shifting and dancing as the night retreated. Catnap felt something within him stir, a feeling he hadn't felt in a while. It was a strange mix of peace and longing, a yearning for more moments like these with the critters he had grown to care about.
