Esmeralda:
Neither me nor my 9 year old sister Marisol had spoken in days. And when we did it would be sparse words. It's not that we couldn't. There was nothing to speak of. We were on our way to ZurZur. A small town hidden from those who are magic-less. I pitied humans. What a sad life they must live never experiencing the hidden secrets and gems. And that means a lot coming from a young girl with nothing left to loose but a lil sister. We were traveling through the woods of Lake Worth.
"Are we almost there yet." Marisol whined. She was holding my hand and pulling on it. I gave her head a little pat and told her soon. Her pale long green hair matched my own.
We continued till we stopped at the huge lake. I decided we would go in a circle around the lake as I searched for a tree with a magical sigil. The sun was starting to rise now.
After a while of scanning the trees my hands glazed over markings. They were dents in a tree. Five. to be exact. To most humans they would seem to be unimportant. But to creatures the signified the type of town was it. Five meant it was a small and poor town. It was safe haven. For those with nowhere else to go.
I looked for a rabbit hole. Marisol still clinging onto my hand. She seemed impatient. Dots and swirls of pale orange shifted onto her skin. That color meant she was impatient. Unlike her I could much easier control my scales. The scales of Silkies imitated normal skin. Just more rougher. Little spots of my skin though showed up ass pale green snake scales.
They only changed color if felt extreme emotions. Which was almost never. Silkies are one of the many species of magics that couldn't blend into humans that well. I didn't mind that though. I would never want to be apart of their world.
I nearly tripped over the rabbit burrow when I found it. I crouched down and pulled out a small glass bottle with a purple liquid in it. I then tossed the bottle in it. A couple minutes passed before the floor me and Marisol were standing on slowly started to descend into the ground. It was dark and took about ten minutes till we got to the waiting room.
Even if it was a bunch of steps to just get into ZurZur. But there needed to be so many measures. It was a huge deal to make sure as many humans as possible didn't know the truth if their world. It was more than just some taboo. It was a breach of everyone's safety. Very few humans even knew about magic being real. Most of those being magic killers.
I made Marisol sit down while I went up to the security. It felt like we were in a doctors waiting room. But just beyond those doors it would seem like we were outside in the nature. With fake ceilings imitating the sky.
"Esmeralda Emerald. My mother, Flora Emerald, left a house in my name." My fingers drummed on the desk with anxiety and impatience. I handed her my creature ID. The woman didn't even looks at me she just started to type things into her computer.
She looked like a gargoyle straight off a tower. Her skin and hair being gray with her texture looking like cement. Parts of her cheeks had cracks in them. A whole chunk of her ear had been broken off. I wondered how that happened. Gargoyles only lasted until their form gave up and they shattered. It's said that the most wealthy gargoyles could live forever. As long as they don't get to many cracks.
"Alright. You may enter." She had a thick southern accent and went over to open the door.
Marisol quickly ran up behind me. Her skin almost entirely turning a bright yellow. Filled with excitement. She was jumping up and down like a dog nipping at my heels.
As we entered the town a wave of fresh sparkle flowers washed over me. The entrance lead into an underground market. Much past this would be twisting roads that would lead to different types of buildings. I could recall each one perfectly from my childhood with mother. Pitifully thought those days were over.
