Chapter 13 - A vote for King

October 1st, 2078

On September 30th, Yuriy Ivanov declared his candidacy in the election to be the King of the United Commonwealth. Yuriy was a decorated member of delta squad and also a personal friend of Alex.

Alex was still in Poland on the 1st so he decided to deliver a speech in favor of Ivanov, the primary Offical language of the commonwealth was to be English to have better communication between different ethnicities,although the other languages were official as well. This made it easier for Alex to address the commonwealth.

Him and Ivanov of course wearing masks, entered the television studio.

The cameras began rolling and Alex began:

"Hello Poland, Hello Ukraine, Hello Lithuania, and Hello Belarus. This former North American chancellor Alex Garner, and I am aware there is a choice before you, you could either choose between my friend Yuriy Ivanov, a decorated war hero who helped win the war against the Russians and Chinese or the corrupt Marek Radziwiłł, a noble, an oligarch and a generally bad man. Radziwiłł has done many bad things such as tax evasion and corruption. I am begging you to vote for my friend Yuriy to be the new king of the United Commonwealth! It is key to ensure the commonwealth's success. I am also endorsing the party closely affiliated with the candidate, the Liberal Social Party of the Commonweath (LSP), which is based on my LSU back in North America. I hope to see Mr. Ivanov prevail at the ballot box on January 1st. Thank You all!"

Yuriy Ivanov began:

"Thank you, Alex for your endorsement of me.If I am elected King, me and my party will improve the lives of the citizens. Everyday of my reign, until I die will be dedicated to you, the people who have chosen me to rule. I will be honored if the people of the commonwealth elect me to be king in the direct General elections on January 1st of next year. I wish you all the best, and Goodnight!"

As Alex left the television studio, his phone buzzed with two messages both news articles.

One of them said "NAU forces force Ceasefire in Haitian Civil War" and was about how the war in Haiti had ended in a ceasefire between all 3 sides on a demarcated line.

The other was an article with a video attached, the title read "Fmr. German Chancellor Lukas Schmidt endorses fellow Delta Squad member to be king of the United Commonwealth".

Alex clicked on the Video and his son in law, Lukas began talking:

"My father in law, Alex Garner has made an excellent judgment. Yuriy Ivanov is the only person ready for the job to be king of the commonwealth. As a soldier, I fought side by side with Herr Ivanov and I will say he is an excellent soldier and a good person. Yuriy Ivanov fought for his country and the allies with valor and honor and deserves to be rewarded in kind. That is why, I am proud to endorse Yuriy Ivanov to be King of the United Commonwealth!"

Alex was proud of Lukas for taking the side of his squad member. He had done the best thing for his neighboring country in ensuring it had a strong head of state.

Alex left that night to go back to Ottawa.
