A gleam of sunlight was shining on Bridget's face. She woke up and noticed something strange. She was on the sofa, but also, she was on top of Lando.
His arm was wrapped around her waist, and her head rested against his chest. She could hear the steady thrum of his heartbeat, and in that moment, it felt both surreal and exhilarating.
Lando soon woke up and looked at Bridget. He smiled at her and said, "Morning, Freckles." His voice was raspy, and Bridget felt her cheeks get red. She slowly moved away from him and sat up straight on the sofa.
"What time is it?" she mumbled, picking up the nearest phone on the table and turning it on. She saw it was ten o'clock, and then she realised her flight was at 10:15.
"Shit, shit, my flight is in fifteen minutes! I'm gonna miss it," Bridget said, standing up and pacing around the room. She started tapping her fingers with her thumb, a habit she had whenever she was anxious.
Lando just chuckled and took her arm. The touch of his hand on her arm made her knees feel weak. "Calm down; you can fly with me," he said. "I'll fly in a private jet."
Of course he has a private jet, Bridget thought to herself. She nodded, and they started getting ready to head to the airport. They began to make some breakfast, with Bridget doing most of the work.
It wasn't safe for Bridget to be around Lando in a kitchen. "Lando, can you please hand me a pan?" Bridget asked. "It's the second one on the left side." He nodded and walked towards it, but it was her left and his right. "Lando, don't open—" But it was too late; the door fell off, luckily not on Lando.
It was quite loud, and Kimmy ran into the kitchen. "Did it fall off again?" she asked, and Bridget nodded. The cabinet had been broken since the day they moved in. Kimmy quickly went to grab the toolbox.
Kimmy handed it to her, and then Bridget climbed onto the kitchen counter to try to fix the cabinet door again. Lando quite enjoyed the view of her in front of him. After a while, it was reattached to the cabinet.
She jumped down from the counter, and Bridget could have fallen on her face, but, like in the movies, Lando caught her and smiled at her. Later, they finished cooking together, and Lando set the table.
Louis eventually woke up and immediately asked, "What smells so good?" He sat at the dining table, waiting for breakfast. "Eggs, bacon, and my smoothies."
Once the table was all set, they began to eat breakfast. "By the way, I'm Louis," he introduced himself to Lando. "Lando," he replied, and after that, no one spoke.
"Bree, I have to say I'll miss your smoothies," Louis broke the silence. Bridget smiled. "I make the best ones," she said proudly.
After breakfast, it was time to head to the airport. Bridget double-checked that everything was packed and that she hadn't forgotten anything. Her last stop was her bedroom. When she walked in, she felt some sadness.
She knew she'd be back in two weeks, but the thought of being back home only briefly and then going somewhere else felt sad. She would miss her bed, the smell of her room, and especially the many bookshelves filled with books.
After the check-up, she turned off the light and closed the door. Kimmy, Louis, and Lando were waiting for her by the entrance. Lando quickly said his goodbyes and took Bridget's suitcase to the car.
