Reflections - The Neighbourhood

“We we're too close to the stars. I never knew somebody like you. Falling's just as hard.”

"No! I would never!" I immediately replied back, my voice rising in defensiveness, louder than intended.

My heart is pounding loudly inside my chest. This is my chance. My chance to look at him in the eye again.

Our gazes locked, mine hesitantly meeting his. Ivan's face was a mask, unreadable and unsettling. Familiar yet different, he seemed to hold secrets I couldn't grasp.

"What are you doing here?" I asked him, planning to start a conversation.

Ivan's expression shifted into confusion, his eyes widening a bit.

He doesn't remember anything, huh..?

"You forgot? I invited you to study since our next lecture is with Luka. Our professor is absent today. You know he gives out pop quizzes to torture students." He flashed me a smile, his little fang showing.

Cute.

My mind rebelled, but my heart skipped a beat as Ivan's smile illuminated his face, stirring feelings I couldn't ignore.

Then, realization hit me. Luka's here!? But he won.

"How about Mizi?! Where is she?!" I subconsciously slammed my hands at the table, making other people in the library.

Awkwardness and embarrassment washed through me. I sat back down to my seat quietly.

Mizi... she saw me die. If she's here, she... She must've died too. And it was because of me. Because she tried to save me.

"Ah. She's with Sua. In the rooftop probably." Ivan replied, lowering his head down, gazing back to his books. His tone more dry than usual yet, he still has that smile.

I stared at him for moments, his uniform suits him. Very neat and clean. He's undeniably handsome.

My cheeks reddened, turning my head away from him. My heart beating fastly again. This is stupid, Till!

Let's just find the way to the rooftop to talk to Mizi. Maybe she remembers.

I drew myself up from my seat, standing up.

Before I get to start walking, Ivan stood up and grabbed my wrists. His actions stopped me from moving.

"What?" I asked. Ivan didn't answer, his grip on my wrist remained firm as if wanting me to stay.

I tried to read him but his expression remained blank. His face betrayed no emotions.

"Is it urgent..?" He murmured, his voice is barely audible.

I'm worried about Mizi. She's there for me when I got shot. She comforted me as she whispered, "You did well, Till."

"I guess it is." As soon as the words came right out of my mouth, Ivan let go of my wrists. He turn his attention back to his books.

"Do what you want." He replied, not batting an eye. Reluctantly, I find my way out of the library.

I scanned the unfamiliar surroundings, my mind racing with disorientation. Everything felt off.

I let out a deep breath, trying to make sense of the sprawling campus. Towering buildings loomed above, their architecture a mix of modern and ancient styles. Some students rushed past me, chatting and laughing.
