Alix's POV
"We've been talking about you two and your odd behaviours," Claudius drawls.
Pearly and I take a seat each opposite the desk. Claudius stands nearby the large bay window, leaning on the wall next to the drapes. While Dagger sits on the corner of the wide desk, closer to Pearly as he looks down his nose at her.
"You've been having discussions?" Pearly asks, "About our behaviours? Aren't we perfect wives?"
Dagger smiles adoringly, but he doesn't give in, "No secrets."
"Secrets?" Pearly blurts, "What secrets?"
"You whisper to one another at dinner, while looking at us like we're the foolish husbands," Claudius sounds snappy as he stays by the window, keeping his distance from me. His eyes are alight with inner fury as his lips twitch in the corner. His hands are also buried deep in both his pockets. Dagger is the same, although his hands are gloved, they are also set deep in his own pockets. They're both restraining their physical reactions, their incubus powers, through touch and close proximity, it was their easiest go-to options.
But they're choosing interrogation.
This was bad.
"I thought we were here to discuss my first choice; Harper," I try to get them back on track.
Because I knew for a fact Bayux and Equiaux had a strange liking to being woven deep into Claudius and Dagger's fabric of being. They didn't want a one-on-one relationship with the men, they just wanted to possess them, to use them to get their demonic powers unleashed here on Earth. To take life through lust. To touch us – their beloved wives – we were the perfect wives! We literally did everything we could to please insatiable sex demons!
It also meant that Pearly and I had discussed in whispers how our demons were affectionate, or cheeky or powerful lovers.
Perhaps we shouldn't have discussed it with Fontaine and Spellman at the same dinner table while we whispered into each other's ears, giggling. Multiple nights in a row.
I couldn't help it that having a sister-in-law who understood incubus was extremely refreshing and fun for me. And her too, I bet. Before I had been alone on this journey. At least now Pearly and I could be friends and connect over the ups and downs.
And of course now we're being interrogated about it.
"Tonight will be run exactly how you proposed, Alix," Claudius gives in, "Afterwards, is when I'll teach you a firm lesson in submission."
"Brother," Pearly blushes bright red.
"You will not escape such a fate either, you are becoming undisciplined and rogue," Dagger drawls softly at Pearly, "In our partnerships with you as wives, we expect respect and servitude. I know you're bright, darling, but you're mine. I am your man."
"I know, darling," Pearly whispers behind her hand, "I love it."
"The Pearl-Wing is mine too," Dagger lifts his chin a bit and glances back at Claudius, who now pulls out a folded certificate from his pocket. Pearly gasps silently, gawking.
"So what the hell is this?" Fontaine storms forward and lays out the certificate for the whole estate.
A transfer... and an acknowledgement with a written statement. Gazing over it, I already see that Pearly has signed with her blood, her name, and given life-rite ownership to Equiaux for the Pearl-Wing Estate.
"Oh, no," Pearly leans forward, "Whatever is this silly piece of paper you found?" Pearly tries to play it off.
"Don't be coy. What's peculiar, I can't say the name there," Dagger picks it up and tries to read it, "E..." he stops, "E..." Dagger's throat gets clogged and he coughs and hits his chest, "...I don't know what this is..."
