"So, Gilbert," Ludwig started after the funeral was over. "Who vas zhe funeral for?"
"Jou remember Francis, right?"
"It vas him?"
"Nein. It vas his bruder, Matthew." Gilbert shook his head and looked down at his hands.
"Zhen vhy vere jou zhere?" Luddy asked.
"Vell, for moral support...but also..." He trailed off. Did Lud really need to know?
"Gilbert?"
"Ja?"
"Also vhat?"
Gilbert felt his face go hot. "Vell..."
"Jou can tell me anyzhing. Jou know zhat right?"
"Ja...it's just...I love him, bruder."
"Francis?"
"Nein. Matthew. His bruder." The albino Beilshmidt sibling let tears drop onto his hands.
Ludwig pulled the car over and patted his elder's back.
"I l-love him, b-but I never g-got to t-tell him...und..."
"Shhh. Bruder, it vill be alright."
"Nein. It vont, Ludwig. Nozhing vill be okay again."
"Hey, let's get jou home. I'll make some vurst und ve can-"
"I'm not hungry!"
"Gil-"
"I'm going to valk home." He opened the car door and undid his seatbelt.
"Gilbert, please."
"Shut up und leave me alone!" Gilbert slammed the car door and stormed away into the afternoon light.
